A recent edition of This Old House on PBS features a tour of the Insinkerator garbage disposal factory. This is a very interesting five minutes of so of the show, and helps one to understand how a disposer is made and how it works. This particular factory (somewhere in New England, I didn't quite get the location) makes over a million disposers a year.

Factory

InSinkErator's factory is in Racine Wisconsin, about 65 miles from here...
I have always wanted to go tour it!

Well, I *thought* it was Insinkerator, I could be wrong, or maybe I got the location wrong. I missed the introduction to the tour so didn't get the exact location or brand name, but the factory guides were wearing dark blue shirts with logos that looked like the Insinkerator logo (long word with a big circle part way down, as around the "sink" part).

Anyway, you might be able to catch the show in repeat showings in your location. It's the episode that first aired 12/22/07, and is about "Plants are added to the home, rot in the garage is addressed, the kitchen is plastered, a copper roof is installed over the back porch and tiles are installed in the master bathroom."

I don't see any more showings in my area for the next two weeks, but if I catch it in the schedule I'll try to record it.

disposer factories...

ISE's factory is here in the mid west, Racine Wisconsin. Anaheim's is in Los Angeles. Those are pretty much the only two companies left making disposals, and ISE accounts for 80% of all disposers sold.
ISE could have another factory somewhere too, with their share of the market its entirely possible.
Thanks for the heads up on the episode too, I will be on the lookout for it!
