Help Support :

I have

I've seen one of them before at a second hand store here in Tucson. Previous owner had taken the tv out of the cabinet though and they wanted a very high price. It eventually went. Either sold or thrown out. Hopefully it got sold. I'm just curious why a thrift store that gets its merchandise for free, charges an arm and a leg for? Well anyways my two cents worth. Justin

High End...Highboys!

Special Order items available from RCA Victor & Magnavox in the mid to late 1960's.

Big Time $$$$ back then too, much more than traditional combinations, and hard as hell to move.

My mom had something like that for awhile. I thought it was tacky as all hell but she loved it. Ofcorse much to my chagrin she sqaured it right in the middle of the living room. Personally I always thought it was meant for a master bedroom. Oh well.

MY crazy parental units also bought a faux fireplace that cleverly had a stereo, 8 track and am fm radio concealed under the mantle.we kids did think that was groovy...hahhah

ahh the 70s.was anything back then really what it seemed?

I remember those

That is a STAR-SYSTEM TV. The remote is ultrasonic. The whole Magnavox ultrasonic remote keypad + on-screen display thing came out of Magnavox about 1976 (so the ad got the year correct it seems).
I remember Admiral coming out with an ultramodern console with keypad entry and 8 track about 1974 (no phono, they just jammed an 8-trak/radio to the left of the CRT) I never fixed one but understand it had no microprocessor and relied entirely on discrete logic devices. EEK! How many of you guys still have a logic probe and pulser probe and know how to use it?

interesting consoloe

My parents had an RCA Victor much like that except the TV was in the middle and the radio and record player were on top. It was RCA's most expensive unit. They bought it in 1967 or 1968. The STILL have the cabinet. The radio and record player still work. They used the color television well into the 80's and they could no longer get the tubes replaced. They bought a new RCA TV and had it built into the cabinet. If you didn't know it it still looks original. The record player has an interesting band of lights that revolve so you can adjust the speed of the record player. It has folding doors and the cabinet was all-wood. They paid almost $2000.00 which was a BIG amount back in 1968.

a faux fireplace that was also a stereo...

that is no stranger than what I saw recently:

A TASER that was also an MP3 player.

Now, let's get this straight:

If you feel the need to carry a TASER (and not a pistol, which is preferable), you will also use it to listen to music.

What?

The interesting band of lights on that turntable is called a strobe light. A lot of the upper end turntables had/have them. It provides for very accurate speed setting. It is also a rather rare item in console type stereos. Usually you found them on component style turntables.
