Hi Mark, Found this while leafing thru a 1964 Ford Annual Report for Stockholders..........I sure would have bought stock in Philco-Ford if I could..........

Hi Mark, yes, makes one wonder the story of where the rest of that lineup went. Well as you and I both know, some are still out there, just have to find them. Many dont realize the efforts that we make in both travel and expenses to pick these up.....they sure dont fall into our laps! Anyway, love your washer Mark, so glad you saved it. BTW, how is the matching dryer doing that went with the washer?

I believe the "other" company mentioned here was Dexter, in Fairfield Iowa. Maybe our member Ben from Iowa could help us out with this.........

Wow, that is wild to see Fairfield, Iowa mentioned in a 1964 Ford annual report. I know wonder if any 59-63 Philco/Bendix machines were made in Fairfield along with the parts? I gotta get down there to do some more research for you guys. Jimmy - btw - thanks for the cool pics! Gotta love that '64.. ah, so dreamy!

Now I am confused. When did Philco get bought by Ford? Did Dexter make Philco laundry until this point (in Fairfield)? I thought that the strange agitation started in '59 or so. Did Philco ever make laundry in Philadelphia?

but, didn't the WCI get the Philco line too?

Also, as mentioned in other threads in past conversation, wonder why the "Blades of Water" agitation didn't stick around? Anyone know the real answer? It appeared that was a very effective machine. Look in "See it Wash". It works well for those of you who have never seen it in person.

Philco Line Sold

Your not nuts, but WCI did buy the Philco line in the mid 70's I think. I have a small newspaper article that talked about the sale. WCI was to expand the Philco line and make it a different from the WCI products they were producing at the time, but we all know that didn't happen, as the Philco division when bye bye.

HI everyone, Ben, if you call Dexter, the lady that answers the phone there will tell you that nothing is left, no information at all on Dexter machines other than what they manufacture today. I called about a month ago and she did tell me the name of a guy that works there and he may be able to help? Sadly in this era of mergers and acquisitions one finds information on vintage appliances/products is just not available. Much of it is chucked away as rubbish as things are consolidated/sold off, or simply "lost" in the process of several M&As. Also many of the old timers are either retired, dead, or otherwise not around to give any assistance either. Now and then one lucks out and finds such a wonderful person, but alas, unless they have their own stash of information, much is also gone.

One company I found has an excellent "vintage" appliance information department was Wearever. Needed information/manuals for my vintage bake oven, and not only did they know what one was talking about, but sent the original manual/recipie book.

The more I see Philco machines the more I appreciate them. No one in my neck of the woods had them except for one small store on first avenue. The one's in these report are fabulous!
They're colorful, imaginative and original. Did they work well? My memory is that at the end of their existence they were always at the bottom of the CU reports (not that they knew everything).
