Interesting Western Holly built in range

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

That's the most sensible range I've ever seen- everything is set up so that it's easy to clean, and so that cooking vapours and grease stay within a confined area, until the fan whisks them away.

Why on earth hasn't someone else done this?

On the west coast, that is worth far more than $200. Western Holly ranges were heavily built. They had a very dangerous burner grate problem when the round grates sat in the round bowls, but these might be improved. Note the Burner With the Brain at right rear. The first WH builtins I ever saw were in the house on Fury.

About 20 years ago my partner and I rented a house that was built in 1954. It had the original WH cooktop but not the separate built-in oven. Many homes in the neighborhood did still have the original ovens though. They had that same washer window. Our cooktop was a really awful fleshtone pink but it was built to last. The entire development had all gas kitchens--including built-in gas refrigerators. There were still some homes that had the old non-working gas fridge but most had removed them and converted that space into a very large double door pantry. I don't know what make the original fridges were but doubt they were made by WH.

Well, the thing to do with that Western Holly would be to have it restored, and the selling price is fair when you take that into account. It would be over $1000 to have its valves overhauled, timers ditto, and its oven insulation replaced. All that is really necessary for long-term safety.

How many times have we all seen some seller who wants as much for his unrestored junker as a restored machine is worth? Sometimes they get generous and knock off $50 because it's a rustbucket and it "needs a little spray paint which you can get at any Home Depot", or some such idiotic statement.

So, this seems to be a seller with some sense, and I say hooray for that.
