Interesting Whirlpool with SuperSurgilator

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

I'm pretty sure that's the original agitator. This is a 1981 or newer machine, and by then I believe that is the only large capacity agitator that Whirlpool had. A standard Surgilator will fit in the machine, but I never saw any marketed that way as new. Has anyone else?

For whatever reason, I am fascinated by BOL appliances!

Nothing a toggle switch can't fix.

one water level...one speed, and water temp is on the timer dial.

IIRC some of these had two water temps not three......

Steve / Toggleswitch -

You're absolutely right. Depending on the vintage of this machine, the earlier models did have only hot or warm wash. Kenmores were that way at least in some models up until the 1981 models debuted which had cold added.

In some Sears catalogs, the BOL machine description says "Two wash/rinse temperation combinations: hot/cold and warm/cold. Instructions provided for cold water wash". Those instructions had to have been "Turn off the hot water at the supply line" or something like that.

RPM - Tubes?

What are those tubes on the side of the agitator for?

It's an optical illusion! Those are not tubes on the side of the agitator, it just kinda looks like ot from the angle of the shot. Those are just the wavy fins that run down the side of the agitator.

The Whirlpool that I bought for my Mom and I in 83 or 84 had that type surgilator. It was was TOL machine, nothing but the best for my mom. It was a great machine. I had to sell it to a friend when she moved out of the house and into an apartment, damn wish I hadn't sold it.
