Guys, a few minutes ago I had an insight and I almost choked with my late night coffee.

Some time after I moved to this apartment asn I was talking with the landlord about the stove we were going to get, he mentioned that there was a compact stove that had the oven "on top" and the burners were hidden in a drawer-like mechanism and it had a metal cabinet on bottom to store pots and pans.

First thing that came in my mind, obviously was the beloved Frigidaire Flair.

However, it just came in my mind. this apartment has NO 240v (if it had, I'd have gotten a magnetic induction Samsung stove) and it never had the electrical pipes wide enough for high amp circuits.

so...

What stove that was similar to a frigidaire flair (compact) that was GAS?

By the way, he got rid of that stove 20 something years ago.

Magic Chef and Norge offered high oven ranges, but they were more along the lines of a regular range with a high oven above the cooktop. I know the Norge was available in gas and the Magic chef was available in both gas and electric. Then there was that wild high oven kitchen center in both gas and electric available with a porcelain on steel tank D&M dishwasher under the cooktop made when all dishwashers had porcelain on steel tanks. I think it was a Wizard, among other brands. When the dishwasher gave out, people not aware of the situation would attempt to replace the dishwasher with the plastic tub type and all it took was one good meal or sometimes even brewing a pot of coffee or tea to melt the top of the tank.

Other brands with gas high oven ranges were Whirlpool, Welbilt, like in an apartment house in which I lived, Sunray, Signature, Modern Maid, Kelvinator, Caloric (which called theirs a "Double Decker" and later an eye level oven, Co-Op had one with the Micro-Ray broiler up top, Coronado, Detroit Jewel, Monarch ( I wonder if they offered an eye-level oven range with a coal or gas room heater in the lower part).

Well, so search begins.

I have exactly 31 inches available, tomorrow I'll measure the height again.
The kitchen is original from when the apartment was built (1917), Craftsman with a very discrete hint of the beginning of Art deco era.

Don't get me wrong, I have a Kenmore Elite stove bought brand new slightly over 2 years ago that I absolutely LOVE and it has all features I like. It's awesome, the oven is aburdly accurate, it's even hard to believe it was made by Electrolux so perfect it is. The only thing I regret is the black porcelain stovetop instead of Stainless Steel (it's a pain to clean and then remove all the marks and when you're done, then you have 30 billion fingerprints with blinking neon signs written "look at me, I'm here") but anyway, that's not a dealbreaker to get rid of my stove, specially because it was expensive.

ANYWAY

As now I'm cooking every single day and decided to be a "proud" houseman almost like Bree Van der Camp, why not add some historical style to my kitchen and make it "freaking awesome"?

Also, a high oven, would give me more space (another cabinet under the stove to store my future Le Creusets)

Regarding the oven itself, I have a brand new Kitchenaid dual convection oven that is beyond spectacular, I actually use it much more than the stove oven because the size is just perfect for Darryl and I, but of course, I can't live without a "real" oven for bigger tasks.

Anyway, I have no 240V and doing that would cost an absurd (already checked) so my alternative is GAS (ok for a regular 120V for lights and other bells and whistles because there's an outlet immediately behind it).

It's not something I'll desperately look for or say "I want it this week", but IIIIFFFFF I have the chance to find a vintage high oven gas stove that fits in the space AND is in great condition AND doesn't cost a fortune, of course I won't think twice.

I won't match the "original" stove this kitchen may have had because the "original" space for the stove was on the opposite wall that now has a side-by side refrigerator (that works beautifully but I hate the internal layout) and a portable dishwasher, otherwise I'd love to have one of those 1920's magic chefs that has a zillion ovens or a 1930s O'kefee & Meritt because they were literally manufactured a couple of miles away from here.

And as I mentioned before, the landlord told me that he pulled himself a high oven stove aways from this kitchen and put it in the curb because it was "old".

We don't know the brand it was, but it fitted PERFECTLY in the space.
