Ldies and Germs, I'd like you to meet Barbara.
This lovely lady was brought to me through the courtesy of Don Jetaction. Who lugged it a block and a half to the UPS store!
Don must have HUGE biceps! I was puffing and snorting just horsing it from the den to the kitchen!
Anyhoo, it does say Amana, so it is a Radarange! She arrived mostly safe and sound in a box formerly used for mussels. When the shipping guy brought it to me he said "Here's yer shellfish!"
Unfortunately, Barbara's glass shelf was a victim of UPS's Tender Loving Care. It was wrapped snugly in lots of bubble wrap, but it was smashed into so many pieces, it was as flexible as a piece of cloth! There's a happy ending coming up. Her lightbulb was also burned out, though that was minor.
Had to get to ol' melon working to see what I could substitute for the glass tray. (The bulb situation was minor. Couldn't find the right microwave bulb so I used a sewing machine bulb. Works jes' fahn.)
Back to the tray. What I did was get one of those heavy plastic cutting boards and, well, cut it. With a sabre saw. Went in slicker'n snail snot, as a friend of mine says. In the back of my mind, though, was a glass tray I saw at the Goodwill a couple of weeks ago. Went there on my way home and it was still there (though not in the place I remembered it.) For three bucks, I took a chance. I could have gotten an "official" replacement, but they wanted 60 bucks for it!
I am WAAYYY too cheap for that!
Imagine my shock and surprise when I slid my Goodwill buy in the oven and it fit like the proverbial glove!
And my little Barbara's a pretty good cook, too. Made some eggplant and spaghetti squash and both came out nice. The top of the cabinet gets pretty hot, though!
The fun part was teaching Mom how to use it. So far, she knows how to get 90 seconds and push Start. That's enough for a cup of tea. I don't think she'll graduate into the multi-stage Cookmatic Level method!
Barbara's nice and shiny, and the door closes with a VERY satisfying chunk. They don't build 'em like that any more.
I also have a Radarange cookbook and instruction manual I got from ebay, but the instructions are for the RR-10 and mine's an RR-9T. Still, I think a lot of the buttons 'n stuff are pretty much the same. (Rick, I haven't forgotten about you, no sir!)
Now I need to find the temperature probe.
Whew. Rambled on long enough. Late and I haven't had nearly enough snacks today.
