So I'm confused,, what's the difference between an Ipod and an MP3 player you can buy for like $50. Is it a status thing?

Here is a picture of my 60-gig video iPod, its storage sack, and its rubber 'skin'. I don't store my iPod in the skin very often because I have to remove it to get it into my SoundDeck (pictured a few frames down).

Here's the iPod in its sack. I use this for storage when its in my pocket or briefcase, or whenever its not being used.

The accessory attached to the bottom of the iPod is called an iTrip. This allows you to play your iPod wirelessly through any FM radio. Just tune it to an unused frequency; in my case, that would be 88.1

Here is the TV show It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Yes, its a very small screen. But when you're sitting in the airport, or the clinic's waiting area, etc., its fun to be able to watch videos or a TV show or movie.

The actual picture quality is much better than what you see in the photo.

I apologize for the varying quality/color in the above photos. I also keep switching back and forth calling the Bose system a SoundDeck and a SoundDock. It is a SoundDock.

Pete--You can buy an MP3 player for $50, but you'll find it lasts about 4 months and probably doesn't hold a lot of music. Many MP3 players are also not as easy to use as an iPod. And yes, there is a certain cache in owning an iPod. They're seen as being well-designed, sleek and sexy. I own one because I have a Mac computer and it makes sense to have an iPod rather than another brand. They work together seamlessly.

Interesting facts and tips everyone, thanks for the thread. I bought a Shuffle for my son for xmas and I have a new 8G Nano. I considered the video version but want it more for listening to than watching. I can use it while working, etc. I plan on buying an armband for it soon - any recommendations there? I like the Nike version the best so far - something lightweight, comfortable and washable are high on the list for me.

Frigilux, thank you for those pictures and further explanations. This is all starting to make a lot more sense now. Now I have some knowledge to work with when I go shopping, possibly next weekend.

If that Sound Dock sounds anything near as handsome as those Wave radios, that would be well worth the money.

Maybe one of those arm things Greg is talking about would be ideal for the gym. I'll have to look into that.

I see it on TBS or TLC occasionally. I got something I didn't expect this year for Christmas, the NEW iPod shuffle, the clip one.

This is the hard case I had for my nano and the one I have right now for my video. It works very well, and it comes with extras for docking and such. Well worth my money.

What I didn't know about iPods........

I thought they came with a wall wart charger.

My computer DOES not have a USB port. I can't go to the library and charge it there, it is forbidden. My computer also does not have a working modem.

I use a Webtv for internet, and it does not download software. My real computer is practically Flintstonian.

I'm going to send it back this week to my sister in Minneapolis, and she's going to send a comparable value Borders card.

It is a silver Nano.

In other news... a shipment to my niece has gone missing. UPS came through with all my other shipments, but not this one.

It can only improve!
