We recently rented a house in Savannah Georgia, and the fridge was a side by side Amana with water and ice, and I suspect was 8 - 10 years old. I was quite impressed - when there was a call to chill the fridge or freezer, the compressor came on first, then the fans in the compartments. When the call was met, the compressor shut off, and the fans remained on for about 2 minutes. Since we're in the market for a new fridge, do the new ones do this as well? And, does Amana really make Amana, or is like a GE or something?

This reminds me of our radarange that starts the microwave for about 2 seconds before the magnetron kicks in.

Thanks!

I thought Amana was bought by Maytag and then they got boughten by Whirlpool.
It's been years though.

That depends

Amana is now a division of Whirlpool Corp. The bottom-freezer models are made at the Amana plant in Amana, IA. As far as the sideXside's, I'm not sure where they come from, believe they used to be made in Arkansas; may still be. I think the top freezer units are made in Mexico.
For several years, Amana was owned by Maytag; probably when the machine you're referring to was made. Prior to that they were owned by Goodman Co. for a short time, and before that Raytheon.

The Amana top mount and side by sides are now made and owned by Whirlpool. The bottom freezer models are still the same and make many,if not all, of the major brand's BM friges. The new Frigidaire/electrolux models are made by Amana.

I am more than sure this was made by Samsung before Samsung started importing their own Fridges with their name badge on them.

All of the Maytag Refrigerators at the last of the "Maytag" run were made by Samsung.
