Is thinking bout a new dryer...

Hey Guys

After initially leaning towards Miele(and then thinking even @ cost they were rather expensive) Im now leaning towards this one- under £400(at cost!!) with 5 years parts and labour Gtee- any thoughts?????

I like those dryers; but I've heard that they don't reverse!

In terms of condenser dryers I'm not too keen on them myself; as soon as I have the cash I'm gonna splash out on a bottom end Miele vented dryer I think. Can't beat vented dryers for drying times or convenience.

Totally agree with ya IF you have a vent or are able to install one they are always preferable....

However...

As I live in a rented flat knocking holes in walls aint an option lol!.

You are correct with regard to the lack of reverse tumbling HOWEVER they have unique drum paddles that move the laundry from the back to front of the drum and back again(think Dyson washers and you get the idea).

According to Siemens this, along with their total copy of Mieles Honeycombe drum(but with circles instead of honeycombes lol) makes reverse action obsolete!.

Another big plus is the transparent porthole-I love watching clothes in Dryers and with the unique back to front action should be fun

Asko has the same way of tumbling, I think they call this butterfly action. They are known for tangling their loads, especially with sheets etc. I wouldn't buy a European sized dryer without reverse tumbling.

Can't you buy a vented dryer and hang the hose out of a window?

Nice machine, I would pick condensor as a last resort, they do work well but are noisier and more faff to maintain...vented through a window if you can.

The Maytasko has the same butterfly action, had mine five years and always been fine, I only ever had a problem with it not reversing, and that was with a king sized damask cotton quilt cover, always used to ball up until I worked out if a large towel was with it it was fine, more not less worked...

An afterthought...

Most of the newer dryers only reverse for 5 seconds every 4 or 5 minutes now anyway, so a lot of them are basically unidirectional and still tangles sheets (like my AEG condenser), so in second thoughts perhaps the problems won't be as increased with those Bosch/Siemens dryers. Some dryer manufacturers (including Miele I believe) have some sort of sensor that reverses as soon as the load is tangled, but god knows how that works and if it actually does!

Window venting...

Hey ppl

Thats not an option as there isnt one where it lives!, Condenser models are it would appear the only option with the see through door anyhows- neither Siemens or Bosch appear to do a vented version- they have solid doors!!

I've seen that miele is the only one who offers alle types of dryers in both vented and condensing units. Why doesn't other brands like siemens or bosch do that?
You want a see through door in vented look for bauknecht if you have it over there. But I warn you poor quality!

Lots of vented dryers here have window doors; just not condensers.

Miele doesn't really have that wide a range of vented dryers - it only offers a vented option on the lower end models; if you want a higher end model you have to get condenser whether you like it or not. There maybe a difference in mainland Europe in terms of the Miele range.

Well lavamat_jon you right!! Maybe it's a differnce. But in Germany and Belgium you can get all types in both ventend and condense.

What's with all this talk of tangling clothes? We've had unidirectional dryers in the US exclusively [Maytags here] and clothes tangling has never really been an issue.
Why would tangling be an issue in Europe and not here? What are your dryers doing?

The smaller drums of European dryers makes tangling more of an issue so a good reversing system is critical. Commercial & American dryers don't need to reverse as there is a lot of room for the load to tumble; plus there aren't size restrictions on the size of the appliance whereas with European dryers they are limited to fit a 24" wide cabinet so that they will fit into a standard slot in a kitche, or so that they can be universally stacked.

Reverse-Direction dryers

I know as a fact, that the only readily-available-in-USA dryers that reverse-tumble, are the large Fisher & Paykel Smartload(topload dryer) which I tried and LOVE, and the Miele, and SMALL Bosch ones. As with old American front-load washers, non-reversing dryers such as my Kenmore, tumble way too fast in one direction that they cause terrible balling of my wash. I MUST dry only ONE set of my double-size bedsheets at a time(by themselves for timed 15 minutes gentle-heat), or I look for major trouble! Jason
