I saw this on the side of the road and just had to stop and get it.
Odd thing was when I was making fun of it, my mother said she got one as a wedding gift in the 50s. Must have been from one of the mean relatives.

Looks very nice to me. Better than all of this earth tone shit from China that's recently all the rave, which I can't bear to stand.

Oh yes, those are vintage worthy, they also came with no legs iirc. Haven't seen one for quite awhile. One of those retro stores in toronto or london might give you a little something for it..There's a place on E.Dundas. in london

If I were you: Hang on to it. It's quite a conversation piece, at the very least. You can always set it free at some point in the future, should it lose its oddly riveting allure.

Better yet, someone may see it at your house and fall in love with it. You'll be in a position to bequeath someone the most unique/unexpected gift, ever!

It's certainly one of the most curious pieces of furniture I've ever seen. The only thing that could top it would be if someone had placed their taxidermically-preserved pet in there. Yeesh, what a thought!

sorry, but...

it's both! kitsch & ugly! but how amazing that you found it on the side of the road! as to whether or not you keep it, that's between you & your lord.

Wow . . .

Never seen anything like it. I really think that proper placement of this object d'art demands a nature theme in the room. I'd start with one of those '60s birdcage lamps that feature an artificial bird in a cage of fishing line with the oil droplets cascading down them - not a cheap one, but a really nice one with a gold-tone top and bottom. Then some green shag carpeting, and maybe a large velvet painting of a pastoral scene on the wall. A little Don Ho on the console stereo, and Voila!, a tropical paradise.
