Hello Richard

A friend of mine has the Hotpoint equivalent of your tumble dryer, he had a similar problem and it got fixed. The drum bearing was the problem and the engineer sorted it out as it was in the manufacturers warranty. It's been great since.

I wouldn't know what could be the problem here but hopefully the engineer sorts it out on his visit.

Mines 1, sometimes makes a squeek when tumbling and when you turn the drum by hand you can hear it and feel it if that sort of makes sense.
Tom :)
P.S best of luck Richard :)

The bearings do that from time to time in Indesit/Hotpoint dryers, but Hoover/Candy and even Miele's & Bosch's do it too, its completely normal, but worth having the bearings adjusted.
If its one with the new bearing shaft, like my TVF770, it should last pretty well, as the bearings are more durable, and the scraping noise type thing isn't as obvious.

Those smaller dryers still seem to be OK but the new full size Indesit / Hotpoint / Creda models are best avoided as they are just flimsy junk.

Gonna try returning the dryer back to the retailer as 2 weeks use out of 6 weeks ownership is not acceptable. 3 week wait for an engineer is not really good enough.

Can anyone reccomend a decent condenser dryer?

White Knight Condenser dryers...

...may be "good" in the respect of the fact they seem to hold out relatively well, but unless you're fond of earplugs or partially deaf, I'd give them a wide berth! I know because I have one. It sits at the very end of the house and can still be heard standing outside the front door! Having racked up 8 years, the noise is a loud rumble with occasional moments of axle grinder. It also works better with the condenser pulled out.

Sorry to hear the Indesit Compact hasn't worked out; they used to be very reliable and robust on the whole, but maybe Indesit have seen fit to use the inadequate bearings they fit to their full size dryers in the compacts too. And 2-3 weeks is a ridiculous wait for a service call; no wonder people replace rather than repair these days!
