I'm new to Waze and am running it on a older LG phone. I connect to car via 'Android Auto' to get dashboard maps. It works great for hours, but when I stop for gas or pee run it sometimes picks up right where we left off. However, many times it seems to 'lock up'. The maps just show location or lock up, the phone seems to just be idling. I usually have to stop and restart the phone and waze all over again. I can't tell if it's a waze issue or phone issue (or android auto issue). Does anyone have some words of wisdom? I don't even know what to look for in a new phone.

I have found ....

In our Ford Explorer, that the android auto to be the issue. Same scenario you describe but with Google maps. We fix the issue by restarting bluetooth on the cell phone. Waiting a minute, and then the map will pick back up where it left off. Seems to be a handshake issue between phone and ford thru bluetooth. But resetting bluetooth on phone always fixes the issue we encounter.

I have a similar issue with the Pandora app when I stream music from my phone in my Taurus. Typically it will stop playing when I shut off the radio and restart when I turn the car back on. But sometimes it will suddenly stop playing and I have to restart the song.

I went ahead and ordered a new cell phone. Today, of course, the system worked perfectly, letting me switch between Pandora and SirusXM with multiple starts and stops. I have to say I miss my On Star system with built in phone.

Had a similar problem with my 2017 LG K4, the app crashed for unknown reasons or indicate wrong location.
I've found out the problem when doing a "contest" with a friend's gps, waze was usually 100/200m wrong !
Finally I've removed the app and got a real gps, saves 1GB of phone's memory a lot of battery.

A couple people have pushed me to use Waze but I have a Garmin with lifetime map updates (for however long that lasts), and also onboard GPS on my car (although map updates are $150 a whack so I've done that only once in 5 yrs, it wasn't worth the cost).
