It finally happened! LG Recall

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

"...a new caution label to be placed on the washing machine."

Wonder what it's going to say? "Caution: Washer may explode."

I'm also curious as to the in-home repair. Are they going to replace some of those plastic parts holding the suspension system up with metal?

Last but not least, I'm also curious to have CR test the new HE Frigidaire top-loader. It seems to be the only non-traditional top-loader with a traditional, not suspended, suspension system.

New suspension?

Searspartsdirect lists two different part numbers for the suspension struts for the newer LG WT4870 and versus the other LG washers mentioned in the recall. Sears has pulled the Kenmore Elite 29002, 29272 and 29278 off their website and replaced them with 4.7 cu.ft. models.

I'll 3rd that! It's a shame that if you spend more and buy the KM Elite you get the LG stuff whereas their plain Kenmore models are still Whirlpool.

I've noticed alot of the Kenmore side by side refrigerators are LG made now as well.

Jeepers, this only took how long?

There are a few videos out there on youtube now.. Maybe a politician was victimized by one of these machines? Who knows..

All I know is that having one of these at a wash-in would be a blast. Uhm.. No pun intended...

Sears went away from Whirlpool for quality issues

Whilpools Overall build quality is junk. There front loaders are not lasting 6 months its so bad at whirlpool that they actually have a call center for just front load tub orders...Now the large LG DD Top loaders Recall was due to Some moron at lg thought "why dont we put this huge tub and support it with this little plastic apron) -.- there fix is indeed a metal apron. Now the Cheepy 110 kenmore are yes Whirlpool and I cant tell you how many Whirlpool&#92maytag&#92kenmores less then a year that are them junk belt drives i have had to fix. The Standard Efficiency is better then HE. There so cheep they forgot to put Thread locker on the Splutch nut so it comes off makeing this horid Grinding noise. From a Techs Stand point LG and Samsung are over all better then the Garbage Whirlpool's pumping out. Dont get me going on GE. LOL

Sears Service

It is a shame that Sears has fallen apart like they have. My Aunt called about her French door refrigerator not cooling and they provided her an eight day turn around on her appointment. Really Sears?

Cant blame anyone so blame sears. Its that easy

If you knew that sears does all the warrenty work for home depot lowes all the manufactures with thier limited tech force. So yeah it does suck that people cant get instant gratification. But I guess thats why people dont like them. They do work for everyone else too so yeah i can see where your coming from not wanting to wait but until they decide to hire more techs or Take less calls. In some areas the state of service will be long. In my district we have same day calls idk about your area.

Some of us are old enough to remember when Sears ruled the arena of department stores.  They sold only Kenmore appliances. There were "catalog stores" in many, many tiny towns (like the one I grew up in).  There would be a few appliances on the floor, along with tires and vacuums.  You would place orders on anything from the catalog and they'd be delivered to the store, at which point you could haul items away yourself or have them delivered and installed by Sears technicians.  And Sears had their own charge cards, which were easier to get than a Visa or Mastercard.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

An eight-day wait for a refrigerator repair is ridiculous!  What are you supposed to do, live out of cooler?  This is why I'm blessed to have a couple of local mom-and-pop appliance stores that do their own repairs.  They can usually get to your house on the day you call, and parts arrive within a day or two.

To Be Fair

If one understands correctly there is a shortage of qualified appliance techs in many areas of the United States. Just as with some forms of computer driven machinists the job is not as easy as persons often think and does require a certain skill set. Added to this the customer relations part of things as one is going into person's homes.

MieleUSA tells us that they have a very hard time finding qualified persons to apply for and become techs. It just isn't the sort of job many young or even older Americans want to go into. Besides the education and skills required there is the manual labour aspect which can become quite dirty. Cannot imagine what those techs find in some persons homes, especially lurking in or behind large appliances.

especially lurking in or behind large appliances.

and on some as well !!

Having been in a few homes where the washing machine is next to the cooker it seems no one pulls them out anymore so when you go to pull it out to repair it you have to grapple with grease/grime the like a young man should not have to see in his lifetime. They were horrendous... Oh and add to that the lady of the house swooning into your arms because you fixed her washer and before you know it they are offering payment terms beyond your wildest dreams :))

Ps its nice that now I am put out to grass and can smile to myself about all these little things that pop into my now empty head lol
