from the webmaster that "quite a few complaints" have been sent to him about the SQ pictures I attach to posts.

I would have hoped that those who were bothered by it would have said something to me directly; alas that was not the case.

Therefore in the interest of harmony and mitigating future potential conflict, as well as minimizing server storage expense, I have asked the webmaster to remove my profile, including any ads, pics, postings etc.

Best wishes to all. I have learned a lot here.

Sad to see you go, Ben :-( I hope someday you'll change your mind and come back. By the way, I liked the vintage ads you posted. Best wishes to you.

Please don't go! I sort of considered them an ever-changig avatar. Speed Queen was the second washer brand name I learned. Our neighbor had a SQ wringer that failed in 1954 and she bought the pair of Hamiltons which we were invited to see once before we moved. Maybe you could post the ads in an album or something?

I concur with the post from Louis.  I didn't agree with a lot of your gratuitous Gore-bashing, but posting a picture is harmless.  There are remarks made by a few here fairly regularly that are far more annoying and tiresome than a series of attachments, but everyone is entitled to their opinions and only in cases of extremely inappropriate content do I consider clicking the "report" icon.   Even then, it requires six more to have done likewise before the webmaster receives notification.

This is timely, since I've lately been wishing we had an "eye roll" option to click on, similar to the the way the "like" check marks work with an adjacent counter, as a means of perhaps sparing the webmaster all the messages from whiners.

While I can't relate to going to the trouble of attaching a picture to every post I make, the practice isn't anything that warrants complaints to the webmaster.   If your posts presented a bandwidth issue, that's an entirely different situation and Robert would have approached you about it on his own.

I encourage you to reinstate your profile and keep doing what you've been doing.  People who have nothing better to do than bitch about something so trivial need to get a life outside of AWO.

I encourage anyone else who chooses to post here to attach a picture.  Here's my suggestion for the whiners among us:

I wouldn't let those that complain about your pictures get to you.  Just be yourself.  Who cares what others may think.

Look at me.  I am a single, hetero, republican (but lean more to the libertarian on a host of things).  If that isn't the antithesis of the majority of members here I don't know what is.

I've met some really great people through this site.  I've had quite a few here at the "museum" and have done business with a few more.  I'd even consider them, gasp, friends.

(PS keep bashing Gore!!!!! HA HA!)

Lets not forget

That there ARE 2 sides to every coin.

Whilst I am NOT one of the people who spoke to Robert to report the picture posting issue I can see why other members did.

What everyone needs to remember is that pictures can pose issues for us whom view and use this website on our cell phones and sometimes pages can take a good while to load where pictures are concerned and sometimes they dont always fully load up to view.

Il be open and honest in saying that this issue has made me wonder a few times is it really needed to post a picture on every response and in all fairness it wasnt called for.

I also wish to defend the guys who reported by saying that I believe they spoke to Robert privately to keep some decorum and to avoid nasty confrontations in public or privately thru emails.

Is that such a bad thing?????

And while im not wishing to gang up on Washman a few times I felt that Speed Queen was almost being forced upon us as if nothing else was worth having along with the 'AL Gore' comments its came across as being like so.

The vintage adverts ARE fabulous and nice to see but maybe a thread of their own could of been made to enjoy instead of being posted on irrelevant topic threads.

Im sure nobody wants you to leave but you do have to look at it from other persepctives too and understand why Robert was notified of the issue.

A Shame

Its a shame that people have even been irritated about the images you posted. And whilst I do view the site on my iPhone regularly the addition of pictures or not never made much difference for me, even if I dont' have 4G/LTE service (Plain old 3G here).

I appreciated seeing the old advertisements as they gave a perspective and the really characterised you as a person who sticks true to their values and never wants to give up the fight for good.

As for the "Algore" stuff you posted, I found it to be a breath of fresh air compared to all the environmentalist stuff that is forced onto people today. It was rather humorous to read at times and certainly gave a different perspective that you don't always here of. Even though I am concerned about what we are doing to our Earth, everyone has their own opinion and you had yours. You never said anything (AFAIK) that was hurtful or offensive to other members, so I don't think your opinions deserved to be bashed by certain other members here as they have been. There are two sides to every coin, in many different ways, you see.

So I would like to ask that you stay here with us. Its a shame that you might not be able to post the images you had before onto threads, but I suppose its better than being hated for it, right?

You've learned so much in the past few months, imagine what you could learn by staying for a few years! Having been here almost 2 years myself, I can say I have learned so much from being here it just isn't funny.

Please consider the decision you have made, since we are all here and willing to welcome you back. If not, take care and "behave" in the real world ;-)

Ben, if I were you, I wouldn't part at all

If there were really "some complaints", a good webmaster would not have any issue discussing them with you (on a 1:1 basis, that is clear enough).

Yet, I would not be bothered about rumors. Don't duck because of some unspoken-of hot air.
Stay here, keep posting and see what comes from it.

As you can see above, there are many of us appreciating your contributions.
And still those that are complaining keep off of this thread. See?

I do not know what has been going on outside of the forum, still I doubt that a hasty decision is a good one to make.
Please rethink.

Webmaster's Task

I think it was best that the webmaster of this site to play intermediate in this type of situation. It helps keep things on a peaceful level. And maybe this actually creates a site enhancement opportunity. What if there was an option to load photos as links instead of including them in the thread. This would help low bandwidth users and people viewing on mobile devices.

In any event, please don't abandoned this site. It is only as good as it's members and your enthusiasm for your recent Speed Queen purchase is shared by several here.

I think a lot of the information about Speed Queen and Alliance on this site has helped draw attention to the brand.

All,

1. The webmaster emailed me outside of this forum. It is his forum and server so he's 100% in authority here.
2. Names were not mentioned nor hinted at. Thus I have no clue who went to webmaster.
3. I gave it some thought and after careful consideration, I realized I cannot really add much more to SQ or anything besides an opinion.
4. I still believe global warming and human induced climate change is a farce.
5. I still believe clothes are to be submerged, not baptized a al Catholic theology.
6. I still think SQ is the best top loader out there, currently.
7. As combo52 once hinted, I really have no experience on older appliances either in sales, service, use or parts so beyond the AWN 542, what is there to offer?
8. I still believe in USA made goods.
9. I like Sears Detergent
10. I wish all the best to those here. I really did learn a lot but like all things in life, there is a time to stay and a time to go. And now, friends, it is time for me to go. As the good word tells us, to everything there is a season..............

Regards,
Washman

I can't say I saw your pics or read your comments.

I can say if you have a legitimate interest in Washing machines, and appliances in general, this is the place.

Is it perfect? pretty damn close!

As a result, there is a hell of a lot sphincter clenching that goes on, and usually not in a good way.

And you will get that with people who are very knowledgable, perfectionists, and experts in their field. Aspergers is another affliction that tends to follow people who are perfectionists and who really get into their interests with a heart felt conviction.

It sounds like you have some strong thoughts on political figures and your appliance interests. While it sounds like I would happily prove you wrong(in a nice way because I'm a true blue Liberal Democrat), I wouldn't say you should leave.

I've been a member of this group on and off since 2002 (blimey, 11 years!) I've learned a lot about appliances, myself and others. I myself have had issues that some would say were very unbalanced, and I've learned to deal with them. For example, at the time I found this group, I had accumulated, in record time, a stash of major appliances numbered around 75 units. yeah.

If you want sheeple that will simply tolerate you, without question, this probably isn't the place. If your a troll looking to advertise a product, It really isn't going to work and good bye to you.

There is always drama with smart people because different people can be obsessive about different subjects. If they clash, it can be explosive. Been there, done that (will probably do it again but with more tact).

Look at this website. It isn't a standard Wordpress.org template that simply has some nice graphics. It was meticulously put together the way only a gay man can do it. I only wish my gay card was as polished and neat. In fact, they sent me a notice in the mail threatening to demote my GOLD Gay card to aluminum if I didn't clean up my act. (Did anyone else get one of these?)

Hope you don't leave, but if you do, you'll probably be back. Take Care.

Algore pritmuch bashes himself every time he opens his mouf. Everybody pritmuch knows it already. Isn't "algore" already a noun, a verb, and a joke?

My 'puter has an internal bandwidth deficit (very old). Yes the SQ ads rather gagged it. No, I did not complain. Many other graphics here do. Particularly annoying when they are out of focus and convey no clarity at ANY filesize.

But since it came up, yes a very large graphic irrelevant to the topic attached to every post can--evidently did--become annoying.

An intermediate/considerate thing is to scale graphic files appropriately. This is a problem THROUGHOUT the internet, including "professional" sites. TONS of designers/posters think just because they HAVE megabytes that there is a value to them. Mega photo files are only good for one thing, enlarged printing. For website viewing, virtually nothing is gained above 25K and precious little is gained above 5K. Yes I've designed webpages within those constraints.

So don't abort, adapt.

Rather than leaving in a huff

Why not donate your pictures to the webmaster so he can put them into the Picture of the Day rotation? That way you can share them with all that want to see and you are still free to continue to participate in the forum.

Just a suggestion, it seems better than taking your toys and going home.

I enjoyed your posts and pics

Truly enjoyed your writings and pics, but never said anything to the webmaster about it. Neither did anybody else who enjoyed them. You're taking the other human beings too seriously and having a reaction to it. A living skill that comes to mind is "under-reacting to others". You will acquire that skill in 30 seconds.29.3.2.1..now. Get right back here and show me a speed queen pic. Les[this post was last edited: 11/14/2013-11:44]

"Look at me. I am a single, hetero, republican (but lean more to the libertarian on a host of things). If that isn't the antithesis of the majority of members here I don't know what is."

One would need to know the majority of members here to make that claim, and what's funny is that when you take away the modern (and intentionally corrupted) meanings of the words liberal and conservative, e.g. look up the actual dictionary terms, it's the same libertarian philosophy expressed in two slightly different ways.
