Against my personal preference my other half made it clear he wanted the fake tree this year and up at the beginning of December.

So Monday it was erected and the fitting of 5 sets of very old Osram candle lights began, one set has 10 the other 4 sets have 16 in each, took me until today (Wednesday) to get them up. (bit of fiddling and re-solder tipping of the bulbs)

So all I have to do now is find some space for some decorations

Hey Craig ...

… is that a working fireplace?

I'm in the process of trying to procure an antique Edwardian-era cast iron fireplace from a guy in England to put between my two living room windows (you can see the space above). As you can see, I need something extremely narrow and tall.

You just can't find anything like that here in the states.

I'll be installing it not as a working fireplace per se; I'm planning on using one of those tabletop gel-burning "fireplaces" inside of it.

A better picture

ok I know its false but when its lit up it adds a kind of warm glow even without using the heat on it !

In its defence of being false it does have REAL coal on it :o)

NYCWriter...My question is

are you able to get an electric fire like mine and Optima's?

You said you wanted something slim to go between your windows and bot mine and Optima have slim fires for example they are not in surrounds and do not need chimneys etc do they sell them in USA?

Tree plus some automaticwasher folks

The flash kinda washed out the vitnage C7 tree lights (some with metal reflectors), but here's the tree in the Montreal apartment taken at a party we had last night. I am flanked by PhilR and pinkgurl.

Not shown - a real Frigridaire 'radiant wall' roasting/broiler pan that Phil got me!!

And here's the very minimalist tree we put up in Ogden this year. We aren't going to be there for Christmas, but we'll be back for New Year's Eve so I had to do something!

The tree has a lot of history... I remember begging my father to take me to a discount retailer called Miracle Mart to get this tree which was on sale for $9.99 in December of 1973! It was the only tree used in our house in Pointe-Claire until 1986 - that was a rough Christmas (my mother died early in January of 1987) but she wanted a real tree, so that's what we got. My father stayed in the house until 2003 but he only had real trees until he moved.

here's mine

hope this works...I just sorta figured out how to post a pic!!! I usually have a 9 foot tree but I seem to be the only one that has in intrest in putting the thing up and taking it down (not to mention the nasty fall I had down the attic stairs getting the box down last year!!!) so this year I bought a 4 foot tree and put only my favoriate/special orniments on there. Happy holidays everyone!!!/mark

Trees around the world

Thanks to everyone who contributed with pictures of their trees and friends, I am sure more will come as we get closer to the day.

I have more less finished loading the tree up with balls and things, I haven't rushed through a mix of tiredness and boredom.

this is my tree for 2013

Matt

My Electric fire is just really for show because i had the Chimney breasts taken out when i modernized the house plus it's attached to the surround & i hardly ever use it because i always have the Gas central Heating on. Looking at the space you have between the windows i wouldn't know how to go about finding a fire to fit that gap.

Fire surround

Yes that is a classic fire surround these were installed in most bedrooms & were in my home originally when it was built. Still very much available here in the uk to buy second hand, possibly you can find one on Ebay.

I'll have pictures of mine sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday.

A pair of sustainable farmed Nordman firs 8ft and 6ft were picked out and will be delivered on Monday :)

I've been too busy to do it sooner.

I like the Noble Fir trees... but it's hard to find one that has a decent shape. I guess they are a bit more fussy about how they are grown, and if they are planted too close to each other or other objects they'll get skewed.

But haven't done the tree thing for about ten years now... found an antique fake tree in the attic, along with vintage cloth insulated C7 lights with bakelite holders must be from the 50's. Woo woo. Maybe I'll put up some LED lights on the front of the house this year.

Or maybe a Festivus pole ;-).

This is our tree for 2013. I bought this from one of our members last year when he mentioned that he had to downsize his tree collection a bit. It's much prettier at night in a darker room, as most trees are, but hard to capture the changing colors from the color-wheel light.

I have to say, I've never had one of these aluminum trees before and was a bit wary that it wouldn't satisfy like a green variation but my son and I are both thrilled. At 20, he wasn't too interested in the tree process much the last few years but he was all over this job. I bought some multi-color balls and we had a good time hanging them and he commented that we should have this tree every year now. Thank you again Sammy for making a great new tradition possible. We love it!
