Well, the age of miracles isn't past.

Today at St. Vinnie's, I scored not one, but two Farberware small electrics!

One is a No. 142 twelve-cup electric perk, identical to the one I use every morning. This gives me another spare, and it also can serve for decaf when company comes. Now that I've cleaned it, it's like new and it works perfectly. I hope the former owner enjoys their new Walmart drip machine....

The other is a good deal rarer - a No. 310-B ten-inch electric skillet. I have the twelve-inch one (with a second one on the way), but the ten has not been in my Farberstash. I've used them before, and they're a very useful size when one is, as they say, Not Attached.

The skillet has to have a new control, so I'm on the lookout for one. But again, happy day - I don't often find bargains like these. These beauties cost me all of $10, with two other small items thrown in. Nice when that happens!

Two stock shots - not my actual items - are below. Also, a photo of the control I need, should anyone happen to have a stash of them. The newer, all-black control does not work with these older pans:[this post was last edited: 8/8/2014-17:19]

Tim:

I am SO looking forward to that skillet you found. It will make something possible that has not been very feasible for a while - fried chicken.

My eensy kitchen does not have a vent hood or ventilator fan, so the sort of frying that starts grease a-poppin' is OUT.

With the 12-incher I have plus the one you found, it will be possible to set up outdoors and fry away without lubricating half the house. I like to do a very sizeable batch and freeze for later reheating in the oven.

I am looking forward to one good round of chicken frying between the time you visit and the beginning of - oh, God - I can't even say the word.

It begins with "S."

Re Electric frying pan..

I thought I was the only one to use an electric pan outside!!! As soon as I install an outlet outside im going to go back to doing that, It sure does save cleanup in the kitchen...not to mention smell, especially when cooking greens or frying fish!

I also will use an electric frying pan outside when making chicken or bacon. Keeps the mess down. When bad weather or too cold outside ok don't laugh I put the frying pan in the kitchen sink. I have a deep sink and it fits in there perfectly. I have a window over the sink so I open that put a fan near it on the counter blowing out and open another window for make up air. This keeps the mess down to a very minimum and all is vented out the window. Makes for quick clean up after. Just turn the faucet to the side out of the way when cooking.
