Ok, did not want to mention this until it was actually here, actually worked, and did not get smashed to pieces in shipping.

Glad to say, this is EXACTLY what I have been working almost a year to find.

It's a three channel, Stereophonic Hi-Fi. My understanding is that this is a pretty high end Motorola model for the day, about 1960.

Its "three channels" are left, right, and an amazingly huge center speaker.

THIS THING CRANKS.

4 on the volume control is about as high as I can stand in my office. No distortion as I turned it up past that. There are so many cool features on this I don't even know where to begin!

The turntable needs some work done--I think a new cartridge as the needle kind of hangs there, and when you play a record it is about 1/8 the volume it should be. It might be some other amp issue.

There is a little light in the FM tuner section that seems to be part of a tube that shows signal strengh in green. My parents' Curtis Mathes has a round version of it.

The cabinet wood has one small dent and some scratches that I am planning to touch up, but not refinish. There is a light that comes on inside the bay when you turn on either the turntable or the radio.

On the bass control, there is a "boost" setting--when you put that on, you can feel the air move off the huge bass speaker.

I just got it today, and it was REALLY heavy to move. UPS left it in their warehouse since last week, so having quite enought of it, I went and got it myself.

It is amazing.

oh wow, that is so cool

that is awesome ......... I have a 1950 Magnavox AM radio / 2 speed turntable ................

drmitch....

There is a vintage record place in Orange I am going to sneak down to this week. Three faves that I am looking for first:

Ray Conniff "We Wish You a Merry Christmas"
Nat King Cole Christmas and others
Themes from James Bond films (Nancy Sinatra doing "You Only Live Twice" and Shirley Bassey doing Goldfinger)

Still listening to it since I started thread. Heard Elvis Presley doing "Santa Bring My Baby Back (To Me), and Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf......

This thing wails.

Way to go

Congratulations Kevin. I know you've been on the hunt for this hi-fi for some time. It's always nice when you finally score your dream __________.

Versatronic....

I know...I was so sick of not finding one here (I mean, this is suburban LA, and I KNOW some are around here, but come on!) that I just said heck with it, and bought one out of, get this...New Hampshire. Luckily, the guy totally knew what he was doing packing it. It took me 1/2 an hour to unpack it. 145 pounds!

Nice console. That's a real spiffy looking VM record changer in there. If it needs an idler wheel or something, you can get it at thevoiceofmusic.com. If you need a cartridge, post the cartridge make/model, I may have one here.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, it wouldn't be a bad idea to change some capacitors in the amp so you don't smoke the power transformer.

Congrats!

Our neighbor had an old old upright piano that was so scratched up and awful looking, the kids had even thrown darts at it when they were small.. I took my bottle of Trade Secret over and rubbed the piano down in a couple of minutes and she couldn't believe it was the same old piano

Yowsa!
Boy, I'm glad you finally got your console! I keep looking for one in California for you, but nothing decent ever shows up. Never thought to look for one in New Hampshire!

Nothing like vintage Christmas carols played on a vintage turntable. May I also suggest the Patti Page and Lennon Sisters albums. Wouldn't be Christmas without 'em.

Not to be nosy or anything, but how much did UPS charge to ship that monster? I'd have thought it would be too big for them.

UPS....

I never thought they would take it...I don't know if some of the rules changed when they opened up the UPS Stores (or bought them out or whatever). It was 145lbs packed, I estimate 138 unpacked, and it is pretty long, though not as long as my parents CM.

Twice on the tracking report it said "Left in warehouse by error". I was not waiting for a third time. One of the advantages of living in Chino is that I am close, but not too close, to the Ontario airport, where the UPS shipping hub is. I just called them up and told them to NOT put it on the truck I was coming over to get it. So I picked it up.

It was $160 to ship it. This was the "slow boat" rate. It was actually in town last Wednesday, and they guy sent it out the Thursday before, so it was not super slow from the East coast.

Pete---I will check into that stuff, thanks for the tip, I have an Ace near me.

Very nice vintage stereo Kevin! That has to be one of the first console stereos,as it has that 1950's Hi-Fi look to it.
Glad it arrived in one piece safe and sound, and with the VM record changer that you wanted so bad. What a great early Xmas present! Hope you find the Christmas with Patty Page album soon. It would sound so fine on that machine.
