Does anyone here put the pumpkin innards from carving down their garbage disposal? I did 2 pumpkins today and dumped everything in. No problems so far. They seem kinda stringy, but softer than celery. Anyone ever have any problems?

Shouldn't be a problem

Unless you have a batch-feed disposal. I kinda overloaded one I had years ago with the innards from 4 pumpkins and I had a pretty bad clog. I have the continous-feed kind now and haven't had a problem for 7 years.
Do you use the pumpkins just for display or will you make pies or soup with them?

mmmm.... pumpkin seeds

Cool! Those are really good and probably good for you, too.
If you ever feel like venturing into pumpkin pie, I would be happy to send along my best recipes.

Making pie from a pumpkin.
We do this every year and here is a quick tip. Slipe the pumpkin in half, put the halves in the microwave for 30 minutes on high. Then let it cool. Put in the blender and you now have fresh pumpkin for your pie filling or pumpkin bread!

Yes, this has to be the best way I ever heard of! I used to actually peel and cube the pumpkin. OY! What was I thinking?!?!

Anyone ever hear of this?

Scoop out a pumpkin. Line with mashed potatoes and a meatloaf mixture. Bake in the oven till the meatloaf is done and serve by cutting the pumpkin in wedges.....

Meat, potatoes and vegeatble all in one.

Hey Gary! That is similar to something I made while living i

That recipe sounds great! It is amazingly similar to a recipe I came across in Brazil. The south american version was made by lining the pumpkin (aboboro in Portugese) with a dough made from tapioca (manioac) flour, then filled with spiced chopped beef. It was really delicious!

I have a Maytag:

Heavy Duty Disposer, that is 12-years old. I know that it might no doubt be made by some other Company, but it's been a great Disposer. I really don't Grind too many items out of the ordinary, but it does Grind chunks of Celery without any problems, even if I leave them in my Disposer Sink, until I'm ready to Grind everything and push it all in at once. I just start the Water on full force first, then I turn my Disposer on and in a very short time, everything is all Grinded Up and gone. I usually run the Water a little longer, just to make sure. My Disposer also has the Auto-Reverse, so I stop it and turn it on again, to reverse the Grinding, to allow anything that might possibly have gotten stuck somewhere in the Chamber in the one direction.

Peace and Great Disposering, Steve

250hp shredder Q100 quad shredder

Funny. Seeing that clip reminded me of a visit some friends/customers from Italy paid to us a few years ago in the fall. Through some translation, the question one of the wives asked was why we had pumpkins in the outside sitting area as decoration. The underlying question was why good food was being wasted. Then, seeing the kids throw all that food in the shredder, then throw the pies around..... Kinda makes ya think. Betcha one of those pies would have fed a homeless person for a day. Not the healthiest food, but it's food.

Climbing down from my soapbox,
Chuck
