lol!! Thats too funny Eugene! I never knew what Shinola was either, but heard my gramps say "wouldn't know shit from Shinola" also. He also would say,"wouldn't know shit from applebutter" and that was more easy to figure out.....<:

I have an old "Parlor Queen" (no kidding!) sweeper that looks a lot like the Bissell in the first post here. Interesting that sweepers like this are making a comeback with rechargeable motorized versions now.

It's been so long since I've polished a pair of shoes, I wouldn't even know if Shinola was still on the market. But that's a familiar saying. I wonder if it originated in the midwest since both of my parents were born and raised in the Chicago area.
 
I worked at a radio station during the first Gulf War, and one night a story came in on the AP teletype. Somebody was quoted as saying about another person that he "wouln't know Shi'ites from Shinola."
