I went to Wausau Chemical today and bought a 50lb bag of Sodium Tripolyphosphate.  The price wasn't too bad @ $64.00 which works out to about $1.28 per lb.  Tomorrow I'll start experimenting with it.  Wish me luck!

Wausau Chemical is primarily an industrial chemical manufacturer and supplier, but they do sell over-the-counter also.  They have quite a selection of laundry products and chemicals for sale.

I did 3 loads of white & light colored laundry this morning using the suds-saver option and 1 1/2 tsp. STPP in the water.  Combined with the detergent (Ariel Oxi Azul), borax, and Bluette bluing, it all looks great hanging on my clothesline.

I did another 2 loads of darks using Sears Ultra Plus (orange box), 1 tsp. STPP, borax, and Bluette, and that too looks so nice on my clothesline.

It seemed that there was more soil suspended in the water with the use of the STPP.

Or Better Yet

If you have access to a good vaccum food storage system such as a "FoodSaver" by Tila I'd try to jig up something there. Once vaccum sealed long as they are stored in a cool dark place that STPP maybe something your grandchildren will thank you.
*LOL*

Checking the records ... I've bought STPP twice, thought it was more.  12 lbs November 2008 and 22 lbs November 2009, and that includes giving a few samples to friends & family.  Second purchase is lasting longer since I found phosphated Cascade Complete and bought a stash of institutional Cascade so haven't been using it in the dishwasher.  I use it for *every* laundry load except with phosphated Foca.

We had some cotton drapes in our den that had what looked like moisture/water staining marks on them. We washed them in various detergents and they would come clean but still had these brownish marks on them.
We washed them in FOCA (non phosphated version) and added STPP and every last one of the stains came out perfectly. And things washed in STPP as a booster seem to rinse better too, which is another plus.
