Courtesy - and I do mean courtesy - of Ben swestoyz, I have a dream machine in the back of my Tahoe, waiting to be offloaded on Wednesday.

She's a rough old girl, but she's a dream come true, and I never look a gift horse in the mouth.

I'm going to share with everyone soon, but until I get her off the truck, she's a secret.

Hint: No, she is not the Amana I've been looking for - that still hasn't turned up. She is not a Maytag anything - not with two 806 sets in the house. And she's not a KitchenAid, 'cos I've got one of those, too - a KDS-55. She is the last thing you'd expect.

What, oh what, could she be? :)

How can you leave things hanging....

like this?!?!?! Just as I'm off to bed. I'll never sleep wondering what this is :p

Happy Monday, Sandy!

It Could Be....

One of THESE - in White!

YesyesohYESSSSSS! It's a GE J 757 - the absolute TOL 30-inch range in the early '70s. Full-house luxury, including P*7, Sensi-Temp, a lighted cooktop, the electric meat thermometer and the rotisserie! The J 757 was the only 30-inch slide-in range to have those last two features (the TOL Americana doesn't count, because it wasn't a true slide-in; it required vent installation).

She is rough, one high-heeled step away from a basket case, but I am determined to put 'er back in shape. A member here has offered me the rotisserie and temp probe parts needed, and I have parts on hand for most of her other glitches, courtesy of the J 370.

I am going to need some stuff I don't have available, though. There are a couple of trim pieces I'll need, which this model has in common with the Americana (the J 757 is essentially an Americana with the upper story sawed off; it does not use the 30-inch Straight-Line Design frame introduced in 1957, as most GE 30-inchers of the time did). Hopefully John combo 52 will have some bits and pieces. There is also a chip in the oven door panel, next to one end of the handle. Hopefully a new panel can be located. Again, Americana parts work for this model, thank God.

Anyway, I promise photos of The Lady Huh Seff when the old girl is a bit more presentable than she is at the moment, to say nothing of off the truck. She is grimy as Hell - Ben was doing me a ginormous favor even touching her, LOL.

Anyway - here's one in Dead Leprechaun Green, a.k.a. Avocado. Remember - mine's in White:

Jons:

Nononononononono!

The Avocado one in the pic is not the one Ben found. It's a CL range in Tampa from some months back.

The one I have is White. And trust me, she's-a rough. As you'll see as soon as I get her out of the back of the Tahoe and she sits for her "Before" pictures.

Tres fancy indeed, Sandy! Congratulations on your new find - it really is a well-equipped range and I can't wait to see it all shined up again!

Congratulations on acquiring the range of your dreams....even if it's going to take some work to get it into showroom shape. May the Parts Gods be kind as you embark on your project.

Talk about a range with a boatload of features!

In The House!

I got her out of the Tahoe and into the house. Ben, how the Hell do you DO this stuff? :) She weighs about what a Chevy Malibu does, I swear!

Anyway, photos to come tomorrow or Wednesday; I want the "before" well-documented. I'm also about to get a thread going with some questions for John combo52 - when I can move again, LOL.

Later -

Now THAT is!

Beautiful..I know you will have it looking like new soon!// I would gladly use one of these, I want the pushbutton model though!

Hans....

As long as you don't have kitty-cats, the pushbutton model would be okay. Sadly, cats can get on the buttons of the pushbutton model and activate the stove.

It would depend on the cat, of course - my dear departed friend Tony would never have jumped up there. My present cat-friend Marty does do it sometimes, though he's prompted when he does.

That wouldnt bother me..

If I leave for any length of time I pull the breaker on the range and water heater, plus I NEVER leave ANYTHING on top of my stove when not in use, not even a teakettle, Donald doesent like cats, I have always wanted a cat, but my Dad hated them too , so I guess I will never have one.

Sandy,

So what is to become of the J 370? I know you've enjoyed it thus far. Has something happened to it, or do you just want to take a step up?

I hope you won't use it as a parts donor, it's too nice for that.

Hans:

Every GE I've used has been a great baker - even temps, with no differential front-to-back or side-to-side.

The P*7 models are, if anything, better than the conventional-clean versions. I'm guessing it's all that insulation.

YAY Another P-7 Range For Sandy

I always liked this style GE range either with the push-button or rotary burner controls, I would love to see one of the Versatronic versions of this cool range, in fact I am thinking of converting a GE Hi-Low Versatronic into one of these cool looking single oven versions.

Sandy it was neat finally meeting you at Ben's house on Thursday the 26th, but I must admit I was so tired from a 14 hour+ drive from Cleveland and when I pulled past Ben's house and saw the two appliances they had waiting for me in the driveway I don't think I knew what I was thinking. So when I walked into Ben's living room and was immediately introduced to a 1/2 dozen people it did not register that you were the real Sandy.

In any event I hope that I will be able to help you get this new GE range into shape.

In any event I hope that I will be able to help you get this new GE range into shape.

Mazeltov!! You're gonna have so much

*FUN* degreasing....huffing and puffing...and cursing :D
BTW, I agree with combo52. Post a current picture 'cos I have this scary image in my mind of Ruth Gordon on her hands and knees with her head in the oven.
