Last July I think it was, I got my WONDERFUL Miele W1215 washer and a box of Persil Megaperls for whites and I have never had such amazing results with only a tablespoon of detergent! (I'm still on my first box of Persil for whites, granted, my whites are usually only half-loads.) Just yesterday, I went and bought myself a box of Persil Megaperls Color and WOW!!!! The results blew away my expectations and I will NEVER switch back!!!! One of my favorite t-shirts had a fabric softener accident a few months back and wash after wash with Tide did nothing for it, but just one wash with 2 tablespoons of Persil Color with a full load of darks, and the stain is GONE!!! I've yet to try it in a water guzzling vintage toploader, but I think I've found a new best friend in the laundryroom!!! YAY!

I still remember the Dixan (same as Persil IIRC) that Louis brought from the Netherlands in '05 - we loved that stuff!

I may have to order some of this for the Duet(s) - I love that there are no suds - Tide HE still shocks me from time to time.

BTW, those are beautiful Mieles - glad to see you got the dryer, I must have missed that in the Deluxe forum.

Greg- yes, I did finally get the dryer in January, unfortunately, the matching dryer to my washer is longer made, so as you can see, the dryer I have is made to match a smaller Miele.

Jeff- I'm not quite sure how you ended up at 23, perhaps I need to update my picture album? I only have 18 washers at the moment, a few of which are about ready to be scrapped! (3 days until I'm 18!! YAY!!)

Dave- Persil is sold at vacuum stores that are "Authorized Miele Dealers" much like Kirby. They may only sell Miele vacuums instead of washers and dryers as well, but they usually have a varitey of Persil detergents and fabric softeners, I gotta try the fabric softeners! Each of box costs $50, but when you factor in the extremely small dosage (for HE machines at least), it's quite a savings, I have had my Persil for whites for almost a year now and still haven't run out!

Is the secret ingredient phosphates?

There are phospahtes in both, but they both say less than 5% phosphates... Not sure how much of a role they play.

No, Persil via Henkel does not contain phoshpates, but phosphonates, which are not the same thing.

Have a case of Persil Sensitive in my stash (purchased as an absurd deal, otherwise would'nt have bothered), and can assure you there isn't any STPP.

Another Persil convert! YAY!!!! Persil will last a long time and the results are 2nd to none. But I have to tell you that the softener Vernel is kinda bit of a disappointment. I got the Day at the Beach Vernel and it smells nice in the bottle....but...when its in the clothes thats another story...its overpowering scent wise. At least to me it is and the first thing my partner said to me when I used it was.."What the hell is that scent???" And it soon followed..."Please dont use it again...it makes me nauseous" Yeah that bad. In a top loader Persil will work OK. I find the regular powder Persil works well in a top loader. One thing about the MegaPearls is that it does take time for it to dissolve and if you are using a front load washer that does not have a EcoBall in it the detergent will just go into the sump area for the drain. It will stay there until the washer drains and there is nothing more maddening than hearing the megapearls head down the drain undissolved.
I use the MegaPearls in my Miele but not in the Maytag/Samsung Neppy.

Really miss the unscented Persil sensitive version. The new has a powerful scent that lingers for days on laundry.

Where Persil shines compared to American "HE" detergents is in how well it rinses clean. But then again find that is true of most European laundry detergents. The commercial Euro detergent for colours in my stash always has a clean rinse by the third rinse out of five on my Miele, even when using high dosages.

Another difference I've noticed is that at least for the Persil and other Euro detergent, they contain much less to nil washing soda, this results in soft laundry.

Find a local Miele appliance and or vacuum dealer. Miele has the North American import rights to Persil and other Henkel products, and controls distribution.

Your only other chance would be to find someone selling off stock or perhaps a purchase they no longer want or need.

Wait, I tell a lie. You can cozy up to someone coming back from Europe and ask them to bring you a box or two.

You can order from Miele USA directly. Just call their 1-800 number and they will take your order. Prices are usually cheaper than purchasing from a local dealer, at least in our area.

If you are thinking of ordering from Miele Canada to the USA, forget it; Miele USA and Miele Canada have a brick wall between them and neither will deal with customers on the other's manor. There are however some Miele dealers up North that will ship to the USA, but as the USD is down against the CAN, you need to check costs.

Try out the new Persil Universal!!

Just try out the Persil Universal powder, not the Megaperls. The Universal powder even does a better job and disolves quickly.
But you won´t have a problem with Megaperls in the sump, because every new Miele washer has a "ECOBall" which closes the pipe to the drain pump.
But IMHO, Ariel Color&style does a better job than Persil, but it´s still a quite good detergent...
Vernel softener also is quite good, you just have to find the right scent..I love Vernel with Peach and lemongrass...mhh.

Jamie, how much detergent do you use for a load of whites? Only one tablespoon? D you get good results with only that tiny bit of detergent?

Keep in mind that it's one tablespoon per half-load and yes, I get fantastic results!!! Perhaps I should try adding phosphates and see if my results improve even more...

One has to remember that the German Persil that we get here in the Colonies is geared toward the water hardness in Germany. And from what I hear the water there is very hard. One of the reasons why we can get away with using a tablespoon or 2 of Persil here is that our water isnt as hard. Here in Massachusetts our water hardness runs about 10 -11 according to my dishwasher. In Maine the water hardness is a nice 2 so alittle goes a long way. I dont think that adding phosphates will make a huge difference in performance with Persil. And I have to agree with Miss Launderess...Persil rinses very cleanly and leaves a nice scent.

You´re right!

We unfortunately have very hard water in most parts of Germany. For doing a load of whites, I always use 155 ml of Persil Universal, which is a big cup. I really like it´s scent and there´s nothing better for whites, really! At Tuesday there was a report about german detergents on TV, and Persil also was said to be the best detergent you can get!
