Looking into these a little, wondering if anyone can report if these drive out nicely, how they ride, and if these is trouble with goofy security electronics(one of my peeves of sports/ luxury cars of the era-even Jeeps are affected...) One of the major attractions of these cars is the Jag inline six engine and the sound it would make with the right exhaust :)

expensive to repair

While that may be true they are so beautiful and classy to my eyes. If the worst happens maybe do as "Top Gear" has done and move the leather seats indoors as furniture although better to have the whole car in a suitable garage as an art piece. I hope you can find one that fits your needs.

I owned an 88 XJ6

Constant relay failure, thankfully I was able to source used ones as needed for $100 each (20 years ago). The self leveling suspension is mind boggling expensive. You can retrofit to a regular suspension but it takes the charm away. The differential failed and howled on the freeway.

The door handles wear out and are expensive.
I remember having an issue with the gas flap
It got rusty

That’s what I can remember from 20 years ago. It was a nice car but I think I got rid of it after 2 years because it was stupid expensive to keep it going.

Run?

Well, not so fast, the price might be worth one. He being a "bigger guy"? That's over 2/3 of our populatione today.
I see them crammed into Kia Rio's, so there!
The last XJ S had better electrices, and for resto. project cars, new harnesses, window relays, switches, etc. are avai;able. The old V-12 wasn't that bad. Two valves oer cylinder, not 4. The carburetor linkage was the most difficulty,,even on their 6 with 3 carbs. In fact newer V-8's from Jag, BMW, etc. can all have timing chain or tensioner problems above 70,000 miles, and cost's about $2 grand to repair. If it isn't done in time soon after the noie starts, if the chain slipps too much or breaks, the valves get crunched by the pistons, and that's terminal, at least for the heads. Still, no worse than A Caddy Shitstar motor.
Fact is, even a Lexus V8 with a slightly stretched timing chain will show little if any performance hesitation, but will store some hidden trouble codes. The Light will not come on. Model years 2007 to 2009 the most affected. None prior, nor afterward before 100,000 miles anyway.
Range Rovers have issues as well. The Freelander V6 was horrible. One good overheat ruined it. A neighbor has a newer Sport model and prefes his sons Lincoln Aviator over it.

They are nice looking, I give them that.

Remember Hyacinth of Keeping Up Appearances got jealous after Mrs Hawksworth overtook her and Richard in her brand new Jaguar X300.

To which she got Richard to test drive a Rolls Royce and drive it without the salesman to a hotel Mrs. Hawksworth frequented. To pretend that they had gotten a new car too. Only to have her drive up as Hyacinth and Richard were being questioned for stealing a Rolls!
