After nearly a month, the work on the 1-18 is finally done!!! This is one of the few cases, IMHO, where the spin seals were actually in dire need of replacement. Water was leaking from the plastic diverter tray on the first test run, which lead me to believe that the spin seal was the culprit. Indeed it was! It also knocked severely and had some spin trouble, so it needed some agitate shaft adjustment (about a 3/16" gap between the wheel/arm; now it pulsates quietly and drains/spins super-fast). The tubs had some bad surface rust issues so POR-15 came in handy as well...this was probably due to the fact that it was still being used despite the spin seal issue--a GM Frigidaire is the WORST machine to use with a leak, IMHO!!! The agitate shaft had a tiny amount of surface rust but a layer of grease took care of that. As for difficulty, let's just say my air impact wrench and bellows pliers certainly came in handy!

I had a Tech-Talk from 1970 to go by, but the big thanks goes out to Greg N. (Gansky1) for answering my (sometimes frantic...LOL) phone calls and giving excellent technical information and advice on how to solve many of the problems I was having with the machine. With an extensive knowledge of Frigidaire he's definitely the guy to talk to about problems with your 1-18!!!

So far I have done close to 10 water tests and washed 3 loads in it without a hitch, and plan to do more once I get back on my feet (another story...). I'll let the pictures do the talking for now. As you can see it works perfectly now and washes great! Definitely the most fun out of all the machines I have ever used--gotta love that up-and-down Jet Action!!! Robert, you definitely need to hang on to your '76!!!

Oh Austin!

I am sure it is running like a new charm. You took your time and as for me and all the other appliance ville folks, you did a good job! The 1-18 looks great.

PS. I still have the matching dryer and/or dryer control panel for you. Just let me know when you want it.

Steve

YAY!!!!!

I can hear it nicely choogin' away from here. I bet it has that nice rumble that all properly adjusted 1-18s have.

You're becoming quite the washer man.

The 1-18's Chugging away in the Land-O-Rust!!

Congratulations Austin! Glad everything worked out,and your first Frigidaire is a winner! BTW did you see the harvest gold window lid via eBay on post #2227?

Marvelous job Austin, congrats on a fine running 1-18. Too late, mine went to a very good home, Ms. Jetcone's. Hope you are feeling better (or on you feet again) soon.
