Nor could this lovely little Jet-o-Matic coffee perc be left languishing on the shelf. It even says JET on the red light. Made by the M.H. Graham Corp in Biloxi MS.. who knew they made appliances way down there

Hey Pete, Great find there. A friend found one of those for Greg not long ago and he brought it to him when we were in Chicago. Have you tried it yet? Amazing as the noise it makes when perking is unreal. No wonder they called it the Jet O Matic. A very fun coffee maker and makes great coffee. Have fun and enjoy a cup for me. Terry

I hadn't tried it till you mentioned above which intrigued me so I had to give it a go LOL
You're right it does make a lot of noise (fun noise tho), sort of a screeching as it really gets going then after the light came on and it settled down it sounded like there was trapped live wild boar inside. I only had some fine grind coffee but luckily whoever owned it left some of those filter disks inside. It has a strange take-apart water stem inside as well. Looks like theres a removable sort of tiny ball for some thing in the base of the stem..I think that's what must be giving it that distinctive noise/whistle because I've never seen such in any other percolator.
btw I checked out the patent# and it's 1973, newer than I thought.

I had a Swinger when I was a kid...loved it! You'd pinch the little red bits on the knob and turn, and when it said "YES" you took the picture; then tug the film out, let it hang there, and then rip the covering off to reveal your picture...if you wanted it to stay, you had to take this little brush soaked in some sort of noxious chemical and swipe the front of the picture...still have a bunch of the old pictures I took with it, they've lasted through the years just fine. I remember that owner's manual! A true "pop" product of the 60's!

Pete, isn't that the most unusual sound coming from a coffee maker? Just wondering, does yours have a spreader plate that goes over the coffee basket, Greg's didn't and I wondered if it was just missing. I am surprise too about the production date, I would have thought older as well.

Thanks for the information Gary!! I also wondered if maybe this was the same coffee maker that Salad Master had? Sure looks a lot like it as I remember.

No spreader plate with mine either. The coffee came out decent though. I think the way this one works is that the basket butts up right against the lid. I'll have to take another look but I think there's a spring in the basket tube because when I went to push the stem thru it kept "bouncing" back. When it sat on the stem postiioned in the percolator the basket was sticking about 1/4 in above the rim of the percolator and had to press down the lid and lock it.

I think the lid does act as a "seal" or spreader for the water pumped up through the stem. Such a noise that thing makes - it was difficult carrying on a conversation in the room when it really got pumping toward the end. I love lights on any appliance, but you certainly don't need it to tell you when the coffee is done - 'thank heaven that's over' is pretty much how you feel when it stops perking!

Don described it as a suction machine in an ICU ward!

Big Swinger

Polaroid later offered the "Big Swinger" using the same b/w film that was used in their more expensive folding "land" cameras. The commercial began with "Get the Big Swinger, with the big picture. From Polaroid." It had the same exposure system as the original Swinger camera. There was also a built in flash using AG-1 bulbs. The Big Swinger sold for 24.95.

The Jet O Matic

is a fun coffee maker but I think it makes lousy coffee. Maybe mine cycles to soon, it shuts off after 2 minutes. I read the patent and the screeching noise is the patented process. The bottom of the tube is designed so that an actual STEAM BUBBLE is formed inside the tube which rises up violently and thereby forces hot water over the grounds.
Percolators just boil the water up the tube but Jet O Matic makes Steam! YAY!

I agree Greg I love pilot lights on appliances!!

Wasn't The Swinger released about 1964-65 or so? I remember my parents got me one for my birthday when I was in high school.
That little stick of chemicals you slid over the photo to "preserve" it had a particular odor. Not very strong, but nothing else quite smelled like it.

White tab! Yellow tab! (Or did the Swinger not use the Type 108 film? I don't remember now!)

the "Stinger"

WOW!!remember my stepmom had one of those little "Swinger" cameras-she loved it and using it to take pictures of us growing up in the 60'swould have to guess she has the boxes of pictures she took with it-will have to ask her if she still has them-One day when she popped out and took a picture of my dad-the "swinger" ad was playing on the TV-He promply sang-"Meet the Stinger"!Oh yes---just rmembered-she wouldn't have the pictures-they would have gotten lost in the rapid City Flood of 1972.Too bad-would have brouhgt back memories-and the camera went also-probably floated somewhere! For an inexpensive camera-it worked pretty well. And was easy to use-the ad clip reminded me of it.At that time my stepmom was the family "cameraman"She was pretty good at taking pictures with her Swinger-or was it to my Dad-"Stinger"
