Sad, to say my 1999 90's Series Washer & 70 Series Gas Dryer have totally worn out, back in 2007 I purchased the 800 Series Set (w/Gas dryer). They have never seen the light of day for 17 years in their original cartons stored in my basement. However here they are, I believe these were the last total enamel top and lid machines produced by Whirlpool.

Umm excuse me?? MORE PICS PLEASE!! Would love to see that shiny brand new interior!! That is incredible. Smart thinking back then on your part to of purchased them for down the road.

Joseph, thank you for the excellent photos of your "modern" Kenmore 800 set, beautiful color. Also thank you for sharing a photo of your 1963 ??? Kenmore 800 Lady Kenmore dryer control panel. A family down the street had the matching pair in coppertone.

2007 brand new Kenmore, charcoal, washer, and dryer

That’s really neat that you’ve saved these. You should be good machines for quite a few years.

What went wrong with your 1999 machines they shouldn’t be all that worn out especially the dryer.

When Whirlpool came out with those beautiful red and blue washers and dryers around the time these Ken wars were made. I almost bought a pair that I was gonna keep in the box but unfortunately, I never quite got around to it.

This 2007 washer is near the end of the direct drive machines. It should be a pretty good washer, but we had more problems with the control systems and such of this model and there were a lot more transmission seal failures, etc. on these later ones so you may want to stock up some parts if you want to keep these really long time, an extra timer for the washer would be a very good investment, how many loads of week do you run a washer and dryer?

John

John,

transmission issues with my 90 Series, really loved this machine, but its seen better days, dryer (70 Series) is the timer and I believe the motor is going not totally sure but seems like there is always something going on.

I hope the seals aren’t cracked and dried out from sitting

Hi Ryne That’s basically an old wives tale modern neoprene, and vinyls do not do that. You could probably let a washer built today. Sit for nearly 50 years with no real deterioration, and I’d much rather have a machine that was never used one that was used continuously.

I have seen many modern ( Machines up to 40 years old ) Such as dishwashers that sat unused and they worked perfectly I’ve yet to ever see one that hasn’t dried out or cracked seal, machines from the 50s and 60s have a little bit more trouble, especially machines that were used and then let’s sit for a long time where moisture got into bearings, etc., and then they sat. that's insane! I honestly can't imagine buying a brand new washer/dryer and just leaving it unboxed for that many years. The suspense would kill me...There is NO way I would have been able to have that kind of self-control.

I wonder... what kind of things can happen to NIB appliances that just sit there for that many years?

Thanks John for the clarification, I'd just heard that off and on so I wasn't sure what actually happens there. Of course, I read it on the internet and everyone knows the internet tells the truth 100% of the time, LOL...

Mark, long story the 1999 90 Series washer & 70 Series dryer were getting older and making noises from time to time, so I started looking and I worked with a real estate firm that was a trade partner with Whirlpool at that time. Which Whirlpool had their TOL in only Black & Red, however the blue was badged Kenmore that is how I found out about them. The agreement between Sears & Whirlpool did not allow Whirlpool to sell them, that didn't stop me. Loaded with the information I went to Sears which was like pulling teeth, they never displayed this color only white so I had to order and wait, even had to fight the salesperson telling me the washer was not available with the infinite water level control. I had to show him in the little book the sales people had that it was available just look! Anyway long story short the old 90 & 70 kept on chugging along and 17 years later this is the story.

2007 Kenmore Direct Drive & Dryer

Absolutely beautiful set.  As someone else pointed out, I would have never been able to take these out of their original boxes. Kudos to you for that. Would you mind posting some videos? I would love to see some wash action on the washer.

I wonder if there are any older sets still out there brand new like?

I just saw one of these for the first time yesterday from Facebook Marketplace and didn't even know they've existed. I knew they've made the pacific blue color for their Oasis and front loaders but never seen these until again just recently. Very cool! My great aunt up in Idaho had a white Kenmore 400 washer similar to that but with less features. If she had one of those blue 800 models I would've wanted to take them home with me when she passed, the only thing I did took home with me was her blue German built Kenmore upright vacuum. At least her granddaughter took home the Kenmore 400 so it's nice for someone in the family to still have it.
