Yeah I agree Matt. Plus it would be cool to hear what a brand new direct drive sounds like again, with no mileage on it…I haven’t heard that since 2007 ironically.

looking through those pictures again made me think of something. Back when I still had my duet dryer... it came with one of those drying racks... and do you know I never used it... not even once...

Unfortunately cannot do videos as this model has a hidden lid switch that stops the action even if lifted a smedge. I don't like change while they are 17 years old it is not like the 1999 90 Series, with the lid that opens to the side, the lid switch the separate speed control vs. the speed now on the timer and a soil knob which controls the length of cycle but what can one do? Got to go with the flow....

Joseph, I remember a P&G/Tide promotion at one of our local grocery stores 10-15 years ago that used the Whirlpool comprarable. They were a bright reddish color. One of the last top load pairs I paid attentionn to.

There's always a way to bypass a lid switch.

On that design, remove the two screws from the lid hinge on the left side, loosen the hinge from the edge of the lid and turn it down as if the lid is closed.

Honestly if those were mine, I wouldn't bother bypassing the lid switch. At least for being NOS. If I would've gotten my hands on my great aunt's 400, I might've done it. But thankfully on my Kenmore 90 Series I've inherited from my grandmother, I don't need to take anything apart to bypass it and could always put a flat blade in the switch anytime I wanted to. Like you, I'm not a huge fan of change either but I'm not completely opposed to it.

Lid Switch

Isn't the lid switch on these connected to the hinge arm of the lid?
