We had a similar Whirlpool until I was 8. It was a gift from my grandpa who worked for Whirlpool at the time, the machine he gave us was a prototype. My mom used to never touch the load size dial, it always remained on small. She'd sort into loads of black shirts, black pants, blue and green shirts, blue and green pants, red and purple shirts, whites with decals, whites without decals, no wonder the machine only lasted a little over 10 years, we were averaging 16 loads a week, she washed rugs, sheets, everything every single week! As I recall, either the motor died, or some component of the transmission broke... I really miss that machine, it is, after all, the machine that started it all for me!!!
