Pete check your email, I have a solution for your gravity drains. You should be able to use them on the dishwashers too.

a solution?

"sooner or later, gravity catches up with all of us!" i'm quoting marilyn ofcourse!

i appreciate that web site, i saved it. it could def be good for a gravity drain valve on a dishwasher.

but on a solid tub washer it is not needed. the water simply spins out of the inner tub into the outer tub and down the drain. a valve to close and open is not needed here. now for a perferated tub washer this could be great! thanks melvin for the website anyway, why don't you post it here in case someone else is interested. i would but don't know how to post websites here.

joe, no no no no no!!!!!!!!!

please don't tell me all that! next thing i know i'll be bringin back a truckload with no place (literally) to put them and what little savings i still have will be gone! either that or i'll have to take a second job just to finance this hobby!

actually i have seen some of his pics and a couple in particular to me are breathtaking!

1-18 set huh. you know i found water bellows for those recently on the web and a water seal also! and they told me more water seals were on order! have the part no. if you ever need it. mark michaels also has some 1-18 stuff. 1-18's are awesome washers! i have one here but it's completely torn down and once i started getting the rollermatics i put it on hold for awhile. i must get it together this winter! thanks!

hey melvin!!!

just noticed in your photo that's the little whirlpool direct drive portable you gave me right there in front! looks so cute, just love that thing! it looks so good in my bathroom! will look even better after it's upcoming paint job.

1-18 parts

Pete, email me where to get that stuff for the 1-18's I could use some extra parts. I could use a bellows and water seal should I need it in the future, and I could use some extra rollermatic bellows. Larry at Modern is sold out

Congratulations on getting your first G.E. Impeller Portable

Pete:

I'm looking at my G.E. Parts Catalog book for Dishwashers.

These pages refer to your machine as Model: SP40N. I don't yet know the significance of the prefix '1'. The Parts pages are dated, but I don't know how closely these dates coincide with the actual production dates.

The first G.E. portable was the Round machine, and produced around 1950. I don't have the parts pages for these models, so I don't know the exact production date range.

It would appear that the next version of a portable was not introduced until 1957. It was the predecessor to your SP40N machine - the SP40L, with parts pages dated April 1957. Also, the parts pages for the SP40M and the SP40N follow and have the same dates. I have not studied the differences between all of these models, but I suspect that the M and N models involved minor engineering updates.

The look of the G.E. portable changed in 1958 with the introduction of the Mobile Maid Model SP40P, followed in 1959 by the SP40P1, SP20P, SP40R1, SP20R1 and the SP40S1 (which is the model I have). Numerous engineering changes with new model numbers for the Mobile Maid continued to be produced, it appears, up through 1964, when the Power Shower version was introduced.

Once again, my dates likely don’t correspond exactly with production dates.

I will scan the specific pages for your SP40N and email to you.

Pete... Posting the link here is a good idea. I'll start a new thread for it. Yes, the Whirlpool portable DD machines are very nice. I think the portable Kenmore DD's are even cuter, especially the 1991 model with the mini Dual Action agitator. Yes, that picture is a little dated considering that I have had to get rid of some of my machines.

A bit of history on that DD machine that you got from me. I spotted that machine sitting in the driveway of a duplex off of some street on Red Bank RD. Why was I down there? Well, I was trying to get to my cousin's house in Madisonville to work on her washing machine. The second day (this time having the right parts), I stopped on the street that I saw the machine, asked the owners about it, and they said that it did not work. Looking at it in the driveway the knobs were gone and the knob stim for the pressure switch was broken. To my surprise it actually had the sink hookup. I took it home, put another pressure switch on it and I slightly raised the water level. When I got it (summer 2004) It was very clean(no rust) and I put it in my shed. It has been sitting in there since the summer, when I had to take it out to make room for the 1947 Bendix. Pete, I'm happy that you could use it. Be sure to keep those parts that I gave you if you can. I don't know if replacements can still be purchased. Yes, I still like those machines, especially the SpeedQueen, but in order for me to gain more experience in working on different types of machines(commercial FL machines), Those had to go. I'm even giving away my 1991 Kenmore 90 series Revision 2 machine(the one with no kick-out switch, but one written in the schematic) to a cousin.

Actually Dishwasercrazy the dishwasher in question....

was introduced as the GE Mobile Maid in 1954. According to the book "A Walk in the Park", there was a production manager at Appliance Park that wanted to produce this improved design of portable dishwasher. GE's head office did not approve the idea because of the failure the 1950 model had in catching on with the public. As the story goes this production manager went ahead and produced the Mobile Maid anyway and the Electric Sink and Cabinet Dept. at Appliance Park devoted 60% of its capacity to building this new model which turned out to be a run away sucess
