Justice Dept. seeks to fight discrimination against gays

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

I suspect the Obama administration is playing this better than Clinton. Clinton raised a huge storm by proposing ending the ban on gays in the military, which was a VERY hot button at the time. Now, instead, Obama and the Dems are taking it a bit more methodically, banning discrimination against LGBT folk - which while it will surely raise opposition from the Right is a far less controversial proposal than the "specter" of the next soldier in the foxhole... oh, you know the tired argument there.

California and some other states already has had an anti gay discrimination ban for about 15 years now. The Dems can point to those cases to show that treating everyone equally doesn't mean the end of the world.

The federal district judge just

refused to drop the case against the christiansists who had us declared sub-human in California.

After Virginia vs. Loving, there just is no way to pretend marriage is not a fundamental right. It is, it's constitutionally recognized by the Supreme Court and the christianists are just going to lose on this, eventually.

The fact that we still can be fired or discriminated against for simply being gay is beyond belief. We are truly second class citizens and legally sub-human thanks to those hateful people.

well worth reading

quote:
Despite the sunny weather, men weren't marching with their shirts off. There was no lesbian fire eating. No boas. This wasn't about a celebration of individual flamboyance or the acknowledgement of sub-identities. This was about showing Washington and the world that we are serious about our rights. That we will not be silent. That we will not back down.

I think she hits the nail on the head. 200K people? Really?!
