Hey guys & gals, I have a question about my 1990 KA dishwasher. I don't have the model number handy but since this is about the pump maybe it doesn't matter. I noticed a couple of nights ago that after the dishwasher drains and the pump is coming to a stop, it makes a squeaking sound and a single clunk or thump. Is this a tell-tale indicator that the pump is going to fail soon? Is changing out the pump a simple enough procedure that I can do it without a repair manual? I love this machine and want to keep it going for a long, long time.

Thanks for any info,

Ralph

It could be the bearings going bad. It may run that way for a while, it may die tomorrow, if that's what it is. Pump replacements in the old KitchenAids is not too difficult, parts are available, but it depends on your comfort level with this kind of repair.

Others here know more about this than I do, so anyone have any suggestions??

I may have been too alarmist about this. Ran the DW last night and didn't hear anything unusual. This machine has done light-to-medium duty for the past 17 years. It's run once or twice a week at most. It could be time for a new pump, though. I'd give it a shot if it's not too complicated.
