is it possible that it needs cleaned out and oiled?
some are easy to open, yet others can be welded closed...

Martin ... reasonable suggestion but it's the evaporator fan motor in the freezer compartment, which isn't exposed to dust/debris like the condensor fan motor at floor level outside the box.
I haven't yet checked it with a meter. I don't know what's a proper resistance reading so can only reference if it's dead or not getting power. It's a "simple" SxS unit ... no electronics other than a defrost board which I assume is not directly involved in running the evaporator fan.
Online parts source I hadn't before used. Ordered Tue 11/28 @ 9 am. Item arrived Wed 11/29 afternoon on "standard" UPS.
