Hi guys

Although I already have an awesome KDS-18 installed in my kitchen, I recently rescued another one, which someone painted pink!  I've tested the normal and S&S cycles and everything appears to work exactly as it should.

As you can hear in my video, it's very noisy and I don't know if it's the motor and/or pump.

Should I send the motor to a motor repair shop to be serviced?  Perhaps it's the bearing?  Or maybe I could buy a used motor/pump and install that?

Very grateful for any advice,

Mark

Have you disassembled the pump and checked for debris? I never been inside one of these pumps and not found broken glass. If the seal went out in the past and water entered the bearings, the motor bearings will become noisy like that. The timer in my high mileage KDS-18 is as noisy as yours but it keeps on trucking. Have a couple of spares for when it dies.

Noisy KDS 18

That’s definitely a bad motor Mark, you know I have lots of spares for those get in touch if you can’t find one easily, like Dan said, the timer noise is not likely to cause it to fail. Anytime soon they usually state Noisi for years and years before they fail.

There are lots of spare timers, or you can just change the timer motor for those as well. I have more KitchenAid parts than I will ever use. We sorted them all out during the pandemic.

John.
