KDS-18 Draining problems ?

Hi greg, these are usually pretty easy, either a clogged drain valve, bad DV or a broken drain Impeller in the pump. [ or household problem like a clog in the drain line ]

If you are going to use a used KDS-18 DW you probably should be taking the drain pump apart and inspecting the main seal and probably replacing it anyway.

thanks john

is it hard to find replacement racks for these? the racks are pretty heavily worn...might be hard to fully repair. Looks like its been in constant service since the early 80s

i would also

guess that it's either the drain valve itself or possibly a disconnected or loose wire to the drain valve solonoid.

i also agree in that if you are planning on using this machine on a regular basis a new pump seal would be the best thing to do, tune up wise. you can get em on ebay, i bought a couple last year and rebuilt a kds-18. i'm sure they are still available and i can get the part no if you want it. dont know it offhand but i can check my seals and find one.

i have a lot of kitchenaids of various models (about 24) and i have never run into a timer problem yet. it's probably something simple like a loose wire. good luck with it if you get it, we can help you change that seal also. lot of good info on this site.
