A KDS16. The oven temp knob is a replacement knob, not the original one. The dishwasher still has the small items basket.

That's an older GE 27" drop in. My oldest Uncle, Russell, Had one of them when he and my aunt built their home in Crofton, MD.I hated it because the burners were too close together and the oven was too small.The other reason was that,if it was to break down and needed to be replaced, you had to get the same one because only GE made a 27" drop in. Nobody else.I can't tell you how many irritated customers I have had over the past few decades who were so ticked off that nobody else made that size to replace their old model and they didn't have one with a ceramic top.

Odd, I've never seen a drop-in with the remotely mounted panel like that. I have seen GE cooktops from the '60s that had the panel mounted on the cabinet facing underneath (or to the side of) the cooktop. What strikes me as really odd about the drop-in is the fact that the oven controls are on the front of the range, but the timed cook dials are on that remote panel. Must be some pretty complicated wiring.
One of my neighbors has the GE 27" drop-in range. The present one (Almond) has self-contained controls, and has been in place since the 90's. Their first one (Avocado) was installed in '72, and the surface unit controls were on the hood.
According to what I remember the neighbor man telling me about the first one, the ranges come with a pre-wired metal clad cable assembly that connects the two parts together. I think the wall-mounted control panels would be equiped the same. Therefore, the wiring of these should not be difficult.
I have the GE range service manual that shows the details, but it's packed up at the present time.
