Wow!: Can we say BAD WATER SOFTENER?

Otherwise that one's in good shape. I'd want to run a commercial lime solvent made for de-liming dish machines (Such as Ecolab's version of Lime-A-Way) through it to get rid of the deposits though. I would bet that the fill valve is at least somewhat plugged with iron buildup as well. The Racks are in AMAZING condition as is the console and the tank in general. I think this is a low mileage machine run on rusty water that was not properly softened.

Memories...

That is the exact model that I grew up with. Only problem we ever had out of ours was when my brother was a toddler he "discovered" the timer knob that was right at his eye level and had the best time playing with it. As was the usual practice Dad started the dishwasher before going to bed not realizing that the timer knob had been messed with. Guess how surprised he was when he got out of bed the next morning and stepped in 6 INCHES of water in the back master bedroom! Poor Mom & Dad had no idea that, thanks to my brother, the timer knob was stuck on "fill" and had been "filling" for approx. 6 hours!! And to make matters worse, this was the late 60's when deep pile shag carpeting was all the rage. I remember the fire dept. coming out to pump out the house (they would do stuff like that back then) then Dad spent the day ripping out all the carpeting. Oh the memories......

Was the 15 series the first to use the 4 arm spray arm? Did they also have an upper spray arm? Anyone know why the earlier cast iron arm was superseded by the 4 arm design? Better performing? Cheaper to produce?

Ken, the 15 series was indeed the introduction of the "4-way Hydrosweep" wash arm.  The top spray didn't come into production until the 18 series (along with the second-level wash arm).

As to why Big Blue got put out to pasture, it may have been partly due to the taller tub in the 15 series - the extra jets may have been needed to move plenty of water up to the upper rack.  Spoiler alert - they do... LOL

Ahhhh... But the first "Constant Rinse" on the top of the chamber did not appear until the 17 series machines.

stevet... please confirm...

The first under the bottom of the top rack did not appear until the 18 series went into production.

I always will believe the 18 series run of the machines were the best. Yes, they wasted water but they cleaned like all get out. Hydro Sweep from the bottom... Under top rack Spray arm, and then the Constant rinse from the top of the tank.

Sorry to say but it's stupid to ever hear these 18 series did not clean well.

I just want one more before I go to the Big Constant Rinse in the sky.

I know why KA got rid of the Constant Rinse but to not to improve it or refine the design just left me sooooo miffed... I never understood why they didn't fix it.

Like the New Agitub Speed Queen. It just ruined everything.
