Congratulations!
In my opinion, this machine, coupled with the longer upper wash arm, but still with the constant rinse was the best 2 wash arm dishwasher Hobart made. It was the last of the pre-insanity models. After the 18, KA designs were all over the place trying to save energy and ingratiate themselves with the federal bean counters who know nothing about cleaning in dishwashers or washers and don't care that they don't know because knowledge might get in the way of the issuing of regulations. The KDS18 gave, in the Normal cycle, two short prerinses to heat up the machine and dishes, two washes and three rinses. I add some detergent to the door for the first fill so that grease does not float on top of the water and build up on the tank lip under the door. I will admit that it does have a less-than-adequate Rinse & Hold.
The Department of Energy was created in the Carter Administration to wean the US off foreign oil dependency, but they were like crabgrass in a Bermuda grass lawn and just spread out all over the place, assuming mandates that they did not have. It would be interesting to see how washers and dishwashers and their detergents would have evolved were it not for the DOE and EPA.
