Hello all,
So my KDS-16 quit running a while back and after some investigation, it was simply the main fuse which we replaced and she was humming along when we started hearing this loud intermittent clicking/grinding kind of noise. Almost like plastic teeth on two gears raking against each other, then again and seems to be at the cycle changes. My first thought was is the dispenser lid but I'm thinking no now.

I took off the arm and basket and found a few blue/green broken pieces under the heating element that looked burned. No idea how long they'd been there or where they came from but I'm thinking off on of the trays.

My husband mentioned that when checking wiring when it wouldn't run he was turning a knob down there? Would have anything to do with it?

Also, the buttons on the control panel seem very loose. They seem to work ok, just not sure that's normal.

Other than that, she runs pretty good. I love this machine but have no one in my area to take a look at her.[this post was last edited: 3/29/2021-11:30]

Yep, Correct - I double checked the paperwork and she's a KDS-16, sorry about that.
Any ideas on the issue?
What about this model itself? Good, bad, indifferent as it
appears the 18's seem to be more highly regarded.

It depends

Yours has one wash arm on the bottom so you have to pay attention to not block the top rack from the spray. The 18 has a center was arm. My personal favorite is the single wash arm like yours so it really depends on who you ask. I don't personally know what that sound might be. There are a few things that come to mind but there are better experts who I'm sure will weigh in.

These are not that difficult to work on and many of the parts are available on eBay and other places so there is a good chance you'll get it resolved. Looks like a nice machine.

i love the 15s, 16s, 17s,

much more than those 18-20 models. even with one spray arm on the bottom if you load it right it will clean!

i have rebuilt these pumps many times, just bought another pump seal off ebay last week for about 10 bucks.

as said they are easy to work on, easier than the 18 and later models i think. i would guess there is some foreign object in the pump, probably the lower drain pump.

there is all kinds of help on this site to help you inspect that pump and install a new seal if you decide to work on it. you are right, you probably won't find any repairman who will work on it. but dont let that discourage you. there a people here who can help with lots of good info, including myself. so if you like the machine and want to keep it running i would take that pump apart and inspect it if nothing else.
