Not sure how geniune this is.. but note how the salesman slams Whirlpool and Maytag.

Interesting video! It almost makes me want to buy a WCI Kelvinator!

 

But I think I'll wait for the real thing from when it was still made by AMC!

Yes, I want one too!  LOL - videotape can sell anything.

 

Even using roughly 50 gallons of water and the longest wash time available, they still were not able to clean quite as well as the host claimed.  I had one in my first house, left behind by the previous owner.  That poor thing couldn't clean much at all.  The agitator was anemic and when combined with the "Double Scrub" wash action of the swirling tub, it was even less effective.  Sheets were the biggest joke, queen or king sheets would just go along for ride, barely turning over even once during the entire wash cycle.  

 

One "feature" not covered in the video was the noise factor.  From the first snap of the timer, these were some of the loudest machines on the market at the time.  Roaring fill flume, whining agitation and reverberating spin, you were certainly thankful the cycle was relatively short.

Its amazing

how identical the mechanism design is to the Frigidaire snubber system!! Even the stamping on the base plate are identical, and the dryer looks like a 1-18 dryer as well. What gives here???

 

I love the proof of "coffee filter draining" in the WP-Kenmores !! Especially when he says "yeuck" over the WP dirt catching drain action!!

WCI quality control. God, I love a good comedy.

The first part of the tape is awesome, too--what, did WCI make the VCR?

Reminds me of how Fisher was so proud of their immersion-coating process for the Vega, but they didn't realize that bubbles trapped in the fenders caused premature decay. Tight quality controls on a crummy design is, well...you know. Loving, counter-clockwise buffing of a road apple.

Great video, but tough to watch, with the interruptions. Guy reminded me of John Byner.

 Was the transmission assembly guy using an old agitator, to amplify the sounds of the transmission?

yep,that was an old agitator with the vanes shaved down actually was a porcelain tub on the demo model-my '89 monkey franklin has same angel wing agitator but with a plastic tub.The whirlpool in the video was woo-wooing nicely during the drain demonsration

I always liked the suit of armor logo. Defunct Kirschman's in NOLA used to have these right in the front of the app. dept. The film set made me think of  "showcase showdown".  Tad of sexism too with the lingerie and "wet Tee shirt.   Goatfarmer I also think the guy on the sound test was using an old agitator to listen.  Fun vid Qualin.  Thank You!

Well, where's the shirt w/ the many handprints on it, as well as the rest of the laundry that the demonstration model washer in the commercial finished? The commercial goes on to the dryer instead... Then there's the lint filter, which the commercial fails to demonstrate (and in my opinion, one of the worst designs--a drawer of nails that's hard to clean out!)... A few other things, too, about this washer--but to cut to the chase, the reliability that despite the investment in high-quality parts & superior workmanship, still can't compete w/ the other makes where it matters most! Early 80s WCI Washers and Dryers

That video is a pretty neat piece of history, I certainly enjoyed watching it.

 

But it certainly took a lot wishful thinking and imagination to think that WCI laundry appliances were high quality appliances in this time period. I always remember the customer of ours that picked up a new Gibson dryer around 1980 and had us hook it up for her, and when we pushed the start button the dryer shook so badly it started to walk across the floor, LOL.

 

The whole video reminded me a little too much of all the Maytag sales meetings that I sat through in the 70s through the 90s, MT went to ridiculous lengths to claim every little detail of their appliances were superior to all other brands, and most of it was just pure bulls..t and most of the other techs in the room knew it too.

But I couldn't get all the way through it. When the salesman removed the supposedly superior washed dirty t-shirt from the machine with the stains gone, no wrinkles, and seemingly spun dry, I gave up... LOL.
