It's a decent '55 model though.
This would be a good one though because its all there, except for ice trays.
It has the 'handitray' drawer for cold cuts, AND the juice containers in the Breakfast bar. Most Foodaramas are missing these and the are ULTRA rare. They are worth the cost of the fridge itself!
If you think that $1,500 is steep, there was a '56 model for sale on Craigslist for $8,000. And IT wasn't even complete.

if you want my ten-cent opinion
I think $1,500 is way out of line for that thing, especially not working. Someone probably tried to speed-defrost the freezer with an ice pick and poked the poor old dear.

As someone else pointed out, that fridge has one phenomenal thing going for it - the interior plastics are complete and intact. I'm willing to bet that someone buys it just to get them. Hey, where else you gonna find 'em?

Very bulbous, just when most manufacturers were beginning to streamline their appliances. The Foodarama was still available in '57, when Frigidaire introduced the Sheer Look - talk about instant obsolescence!

That's true...
If memory serves me correctly, in 57, they continued with the same body style. The only change was to remove the crisper drawers from the bottom of the fridge to the door, and change the door handles.
I think 58 was the last year for the old body Foodarama. If I remember correctly, the body was the same. The cosmetic changes were crispers returned to the bottom of the fridge, and the 'Breakfast Bar' was discontinued. The butter and cheese trays were also removed. They also changed the door handles to sleek vertical pulls, making for a slightly nicer looking exterior. I tend to be a fan of the early 55-56 models with the big tacky door handles and overly-engineered interior features. It reminds me of the cars of the time: big, bulky, heavy, and loaded with gadgets and knobs and things.

Our li'l red '49 Westinghouse would get jealous...I think this beastie might be the only thing I'd ever consider replacing it with. Betcha it'd look good in RED!

I wouldn't want to take a chance on falling for something like that theme song - you might end up dancing around the kitchen, stocking the freezer with game hens, wearing a girdle and pearls to clean the oven and making dips for the kids to dunk cocktail wieners into when they come home from school. There is no telling where falling under the spell of a commercial like that will lead:
"What a dream of a kitchen come true
What a wonderful setting for you
And what makes it greater, it's all Kelvinator
Most modern, most youthful, most new!"

Now, $250 OBO is more like it. But shipping is killer. I just called Craters and Freighters for a shipping quote and it is about $500 to ship! I guess that's not too bad considering how big it is, but I have no experience with shipping large appliances so I really don't know what a good price is.
I would like to get more than one quote. Does anyone recommend another full service shipping company? The fridge is in California and I'm in Texas. I don't NEED this but I WANT it! I'll just have to re-arrange the junk to fit it in if I get it.

I prefer yellow freight - Ask for a corporate discount .

Make sure it goes on a pallet & let them know not to place anything on top.
Or have the frig crated.
Yes its expensive - But you may only see a few of these in youre lifetime - With all the 1950`s retro homes out there this frig would compliment alot of those kitchens , You can always retrofit this in later.
If you havent already done so - Close that deal !!!!!!!
