Have you thought about renting a UHaul or Ryder, and going to get it? Probably a lot cheaper than $500.00, and you'd know it would arrive in one piece.

As much as I'd like a vacation, I can't take off work to go get it. I'm 1500 miles away. I think the costs would be the same or higher: truck rent, gas, lodging, food, etc.

I e-mailed a response through craigslist to get a few more details and feel the seller out. I'll call if he doesn't respond soon.

I talked to the seller. He is going to check with a couple of shippers he knows to see if it can be shipped for less than the quote I got. He'll call me tomorrow and we'll probably close the deal then - I hope.

The seller didn't call me back, I called and got voice mail today. We never finalized everything so I think he must have sold it.

Finally got in touch with the seller tonight - he sold it yesterday, but hasn't taken the ad down.

I'm sorry it got away. It's really hard to come this close to something you really really wanted, and then miss out on it.

I'd feel the same way about several reefers, including a Servel like yours in minty condition. Or an early-'50s G.E. double-door model. Or a '59 G.E. bottom-freezer model like the one I grew up with. Or...

I know where two are

In Tucson, AZ there is a stove/fridge restoration shop that has two of them. They are currently awaiting a buyer to buy them and have them restored. They will not sell them unrestored. They quoted me roughly $9000 each once they are restored.
