Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I have to wonder if people actually pay this kind of price for these? Even though they are 50+ years old, there are still a lot of these old original refrigerators out there that can be had for much less. Most of these need a new three wire cord, new door gaskets, maybe a cold control, cleaned up and repainted at minumim. They are not ready to simply install in your kitchen, to say the least....

Indeed, $7k is way too high a price for it. The old Kelvies are great refrigerators. (I once owned a '60's version of that Food-A-Rama [bought second-hand in the 1980's] and loved it.) But that much for a close to 60-year-old refrigerator that has not been restored from the ground up? Don't think so.

(BTW: The seller has the date wrong. Wasn't the "Food-A-Rama" introduced in 1954 or 1955?)

I'm surprised Ebay doesn't cancel that auction.

It seems to violate their terms by advertising 3 items in one ad.  Also, what would be the point of that.

If the frig is worth $10,000, then why not go find that person who will pay the $10,000 and leave the rest of us alone. That kind of pie in the sky advertising is such a turn off.

This isn't 1985.  donald trump, your a washed up bum.  Your not worth anywhere NEAR what you claim in REAL $.  Your fired.

I sent the seller a message asking.......

"... It's worth $10K according to who... Kelly's Blue Book?   If this is "worth" $10K, then why aren't you selling it for $10K?"   I also questioned the $7K unrestored price.

The sellers response: " I purchased this unit unrestored for 7k. I had plans to restore it for a lot less since this unit restored cost way more than 10k. I no longer have plans to redo my kitchen retro style since it was my EX-Wife desire. With this said, I am now selling it forward.... If you think 7k is too high for this unit as is, then you really have no knowledge of this item and should therefore refrain from purchase. Have a pleasant day."

" I purchased this unit unrestored for 7k. ... If you think 7k is too high for this unit as is, then you really have no knowledge of this item..."

Translation: "I paid too much for this old refrigerator. I am trying to get back every cent I paid for it and nobody can tell me otherwise."

1.) This is someone does not know the first thing about what the value of an item really is: It's what someone will PAY for it!

2.) What would this seller consider to be sufficient "knowledge" of (or about) the item? I should think collectors would have a better idea of the actual market worth of the Kelvie than someone who is not and therefore should be listened to.

Hmmmmm

I think I can see why she's an EX wife. Poor thing, had to run away from the sarcasm. "Have a pleasant day", indeed.
