aint that cool??? well here goes seem i have a new toy and it looks alot like the pic of the day its a 58 kelvy mod wah107 and im the mid of doing a restore and she has a bad week motor. any one out there have a good used motor for sale?? this one is a 2 speed. when i got the machine all the wires were gone and i did the best i could with that but i had no luck till mark came over and did some refigure on the wires. now she will agi and spin but she is week and starting to sing (bad brgs) but as soon as i can find a good motor well be up and washing. will post pics this eve when i get home. any lead would be wonderful.. thanks chris
 
am searching for a builder too. did you see this machine before it came to st louis? she is much better but oh my god those wires what a mess ha ha... but i must say even just as it is today it was so awesome to see the tub and agi move agian... wow
 
I'm the one who found that thing in the first place!

It is nothing short of a miracle you have gotten her this far! Kind of like what I went through with my '55 Unimatic.
Didn't that guy I got that Hamilton from do motor rebuilds?
 
na that guy was into music or somthing like that. like a drummer in a band or something he was sort of an odd bird.. oh so you found that kelvy well well your awesome and i owe you a big kiss..xx.. i will tell you when its runnin ( didnt water test it yet) but its sort of like a loud purr its cool..
 
Hey Chris -

It sounds like the bearings may need some lubrication and a good cleaning before ruling the whole motor out. Also make sure you lubricate the heck out of the clutch - the Gansky Special is to coat the inner part of the drum with Vaseline which did wonders for mine. Before it was blowing fuses left and right - after lubricating the clutch it ran much better.

If you don't feel comfortable crackin' the motor open, as Steve suggested find a motor shop with a bunch of OLD guys running it (those are the best!) or maybe Mark could look at it?

Congrats on getting this far!!!! Can't wait to see some pics. We'll get that light figured out.

well damn the brg on this one are sealed there are no oil ports i look for those.. dont think oil down the shaft would work or would it?? didnt lube the clutch-- you are talking about he tiny little like brake shoe things arnt you ?/
 
Hey Chris -

Yeah, there aren't any oiling ports on these sealed bearing motors - which requires cracking open the motor. I usually clean up the armature ends with some emery cloth and clean up the bearing surfaces and give them a small coating of 2 n 1 oil. The hard part about this - is the dreaded Kelvinator clutch which is a @#$%^ to take off. That is where the Motor Shop old guys come in handy....

In regards to the clutch. When you are looking at the bottom of the clutch, you should see the two shoes. I took a small Phillips head screw driver, and coated it with Vaseline and ran it along the inner drum surface to give it a liberal coating of lubrication. Also you can see how much clutch material is left on the two shoes. I was lucky that my cracked clutch had plenty of meat on the shoes - the replacement drum you sent will work wonders. Let me know if you need anything else ~

i remember seeing the shoes they looked good when i saw them but i didnt lube the shaft. i can crack the motor open if needed im not afraid ha ha. here is a question the the motor kicked in to agi it was fine but when it kicks in for the spin you can hear the switch in the motor click then it clicks again then again then its running fine does this mean the motor is weak? i dont think i could throw water but maybe im wrong it does get up to speed like it should but this is on a dry test

Those symptoms mean that the clutch needs a small amount of Vaseline on each pad, just as Ben has suggested.

Hey bud! Give me a yell when you get ready to tackle the motor. I can give you a hand with that......there's not much to it really.......just got to make sure you get everything back in it's place, also I will bring my meter and we can check all the windings to make sure they are good.....I'm off monday except for having to go take The First Line Supervisor test at 7:30 monday morning. I forgot to tell you when i was at your house last night that i applied for the Operating Supervisor position at the power plant.....looks like i might get it......wish me luck
