Jon Charles, this has been a 3 month + discussion on the gardenweb appliance forum. Has been a lot of curiousity about induction. Have thought of you throughout all the discussions. A freestanding range is in the wings, but Sears is waiting ot see how demand goes for the cooktop.

Hi Bob

Here is a calculation for you:

In 2003, $1,500.00 from 1985 is worth:
$2,564.85 using the Consumer Price Index
$2,287.27 using the GDP deflator
$2,659.39 using the unskilled wage
$3,204.68 using the GDP per capita
$3,899.44 using the relative share of GDP
Using several indexes from 1985 when the Kenmore Induction Cooktop was first introduced.

FAscinating that they are thinking of a Free Standing Model, that was their mistake last time of not introducing one!
Sears has a relationship with Bosch do you know if they are sourcing this machine from Bosch?

If so that would be tremendous as thier cooktops have the most advanced compact electronics out there today.

..... and a standard 30 inch wide free-standing self-cleaning range-oven with two induction and two (regular) radiant elements would REALLY boost sales IMHO.

With two radiant elements, you could keep your present pots, even the non-magnetic ones!

While visiting John LeFever I was able to cook on his old Kenmore induction cooktop. Really the way to go when using electricity to cook with. I am one of those folks who has cooked on gas stoves nearly all the time and have never really mastered the art of cooking with electricity. The induction method changed all that. A friend of mine just ordered the Gaggenau (sp?) version. I agree the free standing stove with induction may just be the thing to make this method wide spread. I hope so.
