My new baby, a compact DD 87 washer, is going right into spin without stopping to drain. Now I have fixed DD's before. Not alot I admit. I had one where it would not spin at all even though the motor ran and had to replace a part attached to the spin tube, the "driver, brake cam" part # 64194, if I remember off the top of my head. I never quite understood(or took the time to investigate) how they got the washer to not spin and then by merely pausing it engaged in spin. So what is it going to take? A new transmission? A new timer? replacing the cord? Painting it PINK? Help me.

And to clear any concern involving the different size lid on earlier belt drive portable washers and the more recent DD portables here is a pic of the belt drive top.

Does it pause for a second and then restart and go into spin? If it does, then the neutral drain mechanism inside the tranny is at fault. They do make a "neutral drain kit" p/n escapes me at the moment. You do have to take the tranny out and open it up to fix, or get another tranny.

Wow advice

I do so appreciate the advice. Robert has created a real wonder here. I admit that my interest in appliances is more superficial and style oriented. But some people here truly know the REAL stuff like how fast a particular brand spins, or how to seal a tub that has rusted, or what type of gaskets to use for replacing when original parts are no longer made. I can fix things but I've not gone that deep to understanding how these machines do what they are mainly meant to do-LAUNDRY.
Luckily this washer came with the parts and owneres manuals. And I was able to scan them. I was wondering what parts you think it would be.

Your scan doesnt show the parts in question because the parts are inside the transmission. There are several screws in the top of the trans that you remove to separate the trans. The neutral assembly in this illustration shows the neutral assembly inside the trans. Also this link to WD Armstrong's online catalog may be helpful to everyone here.

Sorry, I must have posted while you were uploading your images. Your Images do show the parts you need.

It would be no. 26 on your diagram. Maybe someone else can confirm this too.

You might also replace the seals while you are at it. They frequenty leak oil. They would be no's 3, 6, and 21 on your image.
