Hi guys, I joined the group yesterday.
We had this exact problem with our DD Kenmore when we made the mistake of washing two heavy mats. It agitated and drained without a problem, but at times it would not spin unless you reached in and rotated the tub. At that point it would take off. And get this, it happened on it's 5th anniversary! Which of course was when the 5 year warranty expired. And if that weren't enough, we were due to move a month later, and this machine was going to be left behind, and oh, did I mention that the person who bought our house is an attorney? There were a ton of reasons I did not want us to be one of those people who left a broken washer. It worked perfectly until that point. We had the repair man from Sears look at it. He said he couldn't find a thing wrong with it, and guessed that the problem was a defective safety switch. This did not make sense to me. If that were the case I don't think it would have been able to drain or spin, since the switch needs to be triggered for both to function. He did not charge us for the visit, as the only work he did was detaching, and then reattaching the cabinet. Anyway as we progressed through that last month, it was getting increasingly better, with a few fits and starts along the way, but in our last uses of it, it was working like brand new again, spinning on its own, and getting up to full speed with the rapidity that it had since the day we got it. When we moved I was relieved to be leaving behind a washer that was in good working order.
