I was looking at pictures of a vintage (c.1959) mobile home and miraculously the original washer was still in it.

It's a Kenmore c. 1960 narrow (24") washer. I've seen these in the catalog many times but this is the first one I've seen "in the wild".

Are they rare? Does anybody have them in their collection? As I mentioned, I only know them from catalogs.

Alas....

The Kenmore washer was the most vintage and interesting of the appliances in the mobile home. It was for sale about a year ago in NC and the photos can be seen in the link.  It was sold and moved to Baltimore.

However...

Tim Blankenship finishes the story:

"This was near me. I looked at it and was terrified. It had the earthly smell of wood framing that had turned to humus, because it had. Water damage, people. It sold last year, got dragged up to Baltimore, and there was a blog with exactly one post by the people who bought it. I think they realized they got in over their heads, because it was really, really rotten once they started digging in."

The trailer was last seen in Baltimore. That's too far for me but perhaps somebody in the area might be interested in contacting the blog owners to see if they still have the washer.

24" Wide Kenmores etc.

Neat picture Bill, I have seen quite a few 24" machines over the years, but I am sure they are pretty rare, they couldn't been more than 5% or so of total sales.

We have one 1967 model that even has a self-cleaning lint filter, and I once had one about the same age that had 4 push-buttons on each side of the timer [ used the timer assembly from 63-65 LKM full size washers ], SCF and a timed bleach and softener dispenser.

The coolest 24" machine we have is a 1966 24" wide GE FF washer, this machine has a full width florescent light 2sp clutch and mini-basket, I have never seen another 24" GE.
