Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Many thanks to Lawrence for posting this somewhat rare machine allowing me to save it. I kind of drug my feet on the deal and didn’t start the ball rolling until 4-28-21. The washer arrived this evening. It is a 1968 model built the 5th week of 1972. Had to be one of the last before the 1972 console change.

It was owned by a very nice 81 year old gentleman who repaired and sold washers after a career in trucking. He had kept it for a number of years thinking he would restore it but realized at his age that likely wasn’t going to happen.

While it’s not a super exciting machine it is kind of rare so I’m glad to have it. Some neat Sears history how a 1963 designed console was used on a single model until 1972. Oh and my first large capacity super roto-swirl. Hopefully the outer tub isn’t too bad as this washer is going to get a complete rebuilt of the drive system including the gearcase.

Everything was real tight underneath so I think it’s been many many years since the machine was operated. The belt is shot but after some coaxing of the drive system I was able to get it to spin and dry agitate but I can tell the oil in the gearcase has solidified. The timer does advance. Unfortunately the machine has no fun control panel lights. 3 cycles, 3 water levels, and five water temperatures
