Kenmore Catalyst washer

Picked one up the other day.To me it looks like a fancy DD washer with electronic controls.Are they mechanically different than other DD washers? If the electronics are bad,(which is probably why it was traded in)can the basic under the cabinet works work with a standard DD timer,and such?

The Catalyst Machine has this whole elborate system whereby it mixes the detergent with a little water and then sprays the detergent solution over the clothes as the tub spins. Later models of this machine do use a mechanical timer rather than an electronic control. I don't know that using more basic controls would work on this machine.
